Why This Must Be Read: Does anyone else have that one fic that you’d be hard pressed to say you enjoy, but which you're obsessed with? Because this is that fic for me. I think about it all the time. Rodney makes a mistake and then keeps on making it even though he knows it’s completely illogical. This is a gut punch of a fic, without a happy ending, but if you’re in the mood for that, it’s absolutely stellar.

Why This Must Be Read: Part of a series where Sheppard gets de-aged, but it can stand alone. This fic showcases some gripping interpersonal politics between the civilian and military sides of Atlantis. Everyone's joint raising of John as he rapidly progresses back toward adulthood is described as "a bitterly-contested custody agreement" and that's exactly what it is and yet no one is villainized. Great details.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a recent find of mine and I looove it. John is discovered to be the long lost son of Jed and Abbey Bartlet from The West Wing. He's just trying to go to Christmas dinner with his new family but even on Earth, trouble follows him. Perfect characterization for both shows and has really good moments with Stargate ensemble characters even though they're not main.

This is part 2 in the series and they're both great but this one is my favorite so it gets the primary rec!

Why This Must Be Read: I love when characters teach each other their skills. The Defiant One is relatively early into season 1 and Rodney’s already using a gun pretty well. This story is a nice explanation and showing of John’s committment to having Rodney as a teammate and a friend.
