Why This Must Be Read: This story haunted me after I first read it. It's intense and frightening, with John, Teyla, and Ronon all being influenced by an alien machine in a ritual/festival off-world, changed into animalistic predators running wild in that world's dense forests. They hunt Rodney, who becomes John's mate, similarly altered. It's extremely hot and disturbing, as the implication is that they'll stay there forever, Atlantis having become irrelevant. I wouldn't usually recommend outtakes/snippets, but in this case the additional parts provide some closure, although the ending is still undecided. Powerful and unsettling.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a series of short fics telling the story of John being badly head-injured off-world and having lasting aphasia afterward (difficulty producing speech, and writing). the first fic is epistolary - a medical report written by allies of the Genii about John being found injured, and his treatment, plus Ladon Radim's letter to Elizabeth. In the second fic we see John helping Rodney in the lab as although he can only manage two-word sentences, his math is fine. Woven in is Rodney's memories of the grief about losing his friend (as they'd thought him dead for some time), his unvoiced long-term attraction, and the way they've rebuilt their friendship. In the third, longer fic they're back on Earth so John can attend a specialised aphasia rehab program while Rodney does an academic job. Their mutual love is finally expressed here, in John's case mostly physically and by gestures. I love Rodney's no-nonsense pragmatism and refusal to baby John, and John's humor and cussedness. It's a beautifully written series.

Why This Must Be Read: During a mission-gone-wrong, John is drugged, and Rodney gets tied to a stone altar until John, changed into a pre-verbal, more instinctual version of himself, rescues him, or perhaps kidnaps him. Adventures ensue, and John goes well beyond the normal bounds of their friendship, but Rodney mostly copes with this (and isn't really averse). It's a bit awkward in the aftermath, but not too angsty. Overall, a cheerful romp in the jungle, and a happy ending.

Why This Must Be Read: This is an interesting, well-written story following John and Rodney's encounters and their relationship across the years as they move from sexual hookups to feelings (never fully discussed as their communication is, for the most part, terrible) - all interwoven with John musing about physics. John thinks he needs to call it off due to DADT, but in the end Lorne provides the impetus for a better solution. Some might feel it ends a little ambiguously but to me it's a happy ending, and I like the humor, wit and bluntness of the writing. An excellent read.

Why This Must Be Read: This is one of my faves, a lovely series of first times as John and Rodney finally act on their attraction after years of friendship, gradually exploring sex with each other and learning along the way. Alongside all that is the story of their emotional connection, as usual hindered by fear of discovery, at least at first. It starts post-canon, with Atlantis stationed off San Francisco, and ends back in Pegasus - happily, of course, despite some setbacks along the way. A great read, and beautifully written.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a crossover I wrote with SG-1 and Batman (Comics) for No True Pair, and I really am proud of how it came out. Teal'c is sent scouting for hosts, attempting to do the slight harm reduction we know he did as First Prime, and, instead, he finds a kid he desperately does not want to be made into a host.

Can be read without Batman knowledge. The comics it references are Batman (1940) 408-9 by Max Collins. I was able to get someone in the Batman fandom to try out SG-1 for the first time with this fic, which can be marked as a huge success.

Why This Must Be Read: I did rec this awesome fic a few years ago already, but I have to bring it up again because there’s now an amazing podfic by librarychick_94 that fully brings to life every emotional facet of Rodney, every wonderful interaction with his niece Madison, his sister Jeannie, and of course John.
The podfic highlights how outstanding Tazmy’s writing is and conveys the humor and insight woven into this very story, which captures Rodney’s struggle after all the crises on Atlantis, the loss of so many friends, and his fear of breaking under the weight of it all.
Tazmy sensitively conveys Rodney’s depression and emotional stress without dwelling on them. Especially the dialogues with Madison are heartwarming and refreshing, and they will make you laugh out loud. Everything feels so authentic and believable. And listening to it in librarychick_94's incomparably beautiful recording makes it all the more vivid and moving.
So enjoy this incredibly adorable double feature: read and listen—it’s absolutely perfect!

Why This Must Be Read: This is an absolutely adorable story written by the amazing lavvyan shortly after the show's finale aired. It's a wonderful character piece that brings both Rodney's faith in logic and his confusion about matters of the heart to life in a truly heartwarming way, yet still makes your heart ache a little, too—not just for Rodney, but also for Jennifer and John, doing real justice to all three of them.
It's a story about weighing options and making decisions, sticking to them, and finding a sense of safety and belonging—only for life to have other plans and throw you a curveball.
Beautifully written and deeply sensitive, it makes you feel for everyone and leaves you with a smile on your face.
