Why This Must Be Read: As my last rec of the month, I chose this classic by lembas7. It's a weird choice for the "team" category, but, in the end, it's all about how a team grows and changes, how even the closest team can be ripped apart by personalities or stress, and how the individuals make hard choices and work to become friends again. Thanks for letting me rec this month.

No snippet today, sorry, but FF.net isn't as user-friendly as AO3. If you've never read it, please do. If you have, I hope this is a satisfying trip down memory lane.

Why This Must Be Read: A classic early team story where someone is hurt and lost and the earnest Captain, the cranky Colonel, and the somewhat confused Jaffa come together to rescue him. Yes, it's the one with the ducks.

Author's Summary: Jack O'Neill needs a vacation... away from Earth...so what better place than a whole new galaxy.

Why This Must Be Read:

Jack and Rodney together on Atlantis! It's a less often seen combination and Tarlan hits this one out of the park.

This is a series of fic, but the majority of the story is in the initial fic, One Way Ticket. There are five ficlets that go with the base fic, mostly after the initial fic. But they make a good follow up to the basic story.

It's mostly from Jack's POV, and he spends a good part of the fic angsting over his attraction to Rodney. But Rodney gets his own in, pining over Jack.

It's on a mission gone awry where Jack gets hurt that our boys get together, but it's not easy.

But after some steamy sex, Jack needs to go back to Earth. He's on vacation after all! But, being his brilliant self, Rodney comes up with a solution that makes everyone happy!

Why This Must Be Read: This fic, this fic. I mean, heed the "choose not to warn" "here be dragons" warning, as this isn't for everyone, but it's haunted me ever since I first read it. If you possibly can, read it right through from start to finish, no peeking at the end or the comments. The ending is amazing, well, the whole fic is, once you realize. Why This Must Be Read: This glorious, intense story is long. And incredibly teamy. Full of Jack and Daniel friendship, and scientific puzzles, and Teal'c sheer stubbornness, and Sam doing her best (and beyond) for her team, and Daniel taking his usual flying leaps of logic, and courage, and drama...

I love each and every one of them here. Bill Lee shines, Janet has a great cameo, and the comfort of the final scene is an absolute joy. Make sure you've got the time to read this all in one sitting, because you won't be able to stop!

Author's Summary: Jack's not sure who's who. A short, dark piece that some might consider disturbing.

Why This Must Be Read:

This short fic (3300 words) is not for the faint of heart. It seems like classic mission-gone-wrong but it quickly goes off into a horror realm when Jack confronts Teal'c. You aren't quite sure what Jack is concerned about, but when Jack attacks Teal'c without overt remorse, you suspect something is not right.

It's not until Jack fights Daniel that you know something is horribly wrong.

The ending is suitably chilling.

In 2500 words, Bindingdiva captures Jack's life. From the seven-year-old who fell in love with the Blue Angels, to the special ops veteran who missed his own kid's birthday, to the suicidal gate traveler who learned to live again.

The author says the story starts angst-y and then gets 'silly' but it's not silly. The ending is somewhat unexpected but pure Jack and Daniel.

Why This Must Be Read: A weird alien culture, a comatose Daniel, FEELINGS, and Jack trying to navigate it all—this is one of my very favorite Jack/Daniel stories. It's nice and long, and fairly plotty as the team has to figure out what happened to Daniel when he suddenly collapsed while trying to communicate with the nice alien tree-people-things. When the tree beings hand over something that looks like a bar of soap and talks like Daniel, that's when the story really kicks off.

This one is a ride, including two distinct alien cultures, teaminess, and a great exploration of the characters—especially the relationship between Jack and Daniel and communication. (Also, this fic fully recognizes that Jack has cooties.)

Why This Must Be Read:

Author's Summary: SG-1 finds an unwelcome surprise on an alien planet

This could have been an episode of SG-1. Denise claims this is her first fan fic, so there's a couple of teeny burbles, but in the end, it's an interesting story. The "A" implies it was written for SG_FigNewton's Soup challenges.

This is typical "mission gone awry" -- on what looks like a boring mission to search for Kheb, bad things happen. Sam gets hurt, Jack is forced to shoot Teal'c (it makes sense at the time) and they lose their GDO. There's a couple of moments of major worry, but I will spoil this enough to tell you that there's a good ending.

It's a satisfying story... long enough to be interesting, but not too long that you have to slog through anything.

Why This Must Be Read: I always love early season fic. This is a wonderful exploration of Janet's first real interaction with SG-1, when she is allowed off-world, at her insistence, to assess and judge the needs of medical assistance in the field. You'll enjoy her take-charge attitude, her outside observations of the team, and the trust she quickly wins. For Janet fans, this one is a real treat.

Why This Must Be Read:
This was another classic that was recced back in 2005 but alas, the links are no longer working. So without further ado ....

This is one delicious crossover adventure, a classic horror scenario (Mysterious Ancient Death on Isolated Island), where both groups think they really know what is going on, and that the other group really ought to get lost before they land in something bigger than they can handle... and they then proceed to astonish each other with how well they handle it.

I liked all the little touches, like how Giles mentions the Gould as extra-dimensional snake-like demons that take hosts; or the way Major Davis rings up when he finds out that Daniel wanted a security check on Dr. Giles; how Daniel and Giles dance around each other trying to find out the locations of ancient documents; and basically how everyone keeps on lying to each other, while the other party is clever enough to know that they're being lied to, but not daring to call them on it, for fear of being called on their own feeble cover stories...

rubs hands in glee

Summary by the author:
An alien device turns the team members against each other in a desperate struggle to survive. Somewhat dark.

It's a running joke in fanon (and somewhat in canon as well) that Ronon and Teyla more or less regularly wipe the floor with John when they're sparring. Having their superior fighting skills turned against you in earnest is a frightening thought. In this story, they have to survive their attacks on each other until things are fixed and they have a chance to get back to normal.

The story captured me completely. I couldn't put it down until I knew that everything was back to normal and I got that desired feeling of relief, knowing that they would eventually be fine again.

Sheppard's team responds to a request by an ally world and quickly discovers that there's more going on than unusual technology scaring local shopkeepers. When John goes missing, it's up to Sam Carter and the rest to get him home safely.

Why This Must Be Read:

A suspenseful thriller in which each of the team plus Sam and Keller have to do their part to save John and prevent a catastrophe happening to Atlantis. The summary gives the impression that it's mostly Sam who gets to be the "hero of the day" but it's actually every character who contributes something important - even "has to be rescued"-John himself. *ggg* I love stories in which they work together to reach the goal, even if some of them have to do it from different locations.

Plus - it's by T'Pring which very much guarantees a stellar style of storytelling.

While tracking down a lead to find the Athosians, the team is arrested on a secretive planet. Little do they realize how their plan of escape can change the course of history for the world where they're being held and their escapades will become the stuff of legends.

The story is set soon after Trio.

Why This Must Be Read:
Because "hilariously funny while still perfectly in character" is just an irresistible mix and hearing the "legends" that are told and then comparing them to what really happened is just plain fun. Also, it's exceptionally well written and an engrossing, thrilling read plot-wise. Loved the world building and how the OCs are carefully fleshed out without taking over the story.

All the time while reading this I tried to imagine what it would have looked like on screen. I would have *loved* to see that one as an episode.

Why This Must Be Read: Quantum mirror time (I like quantum mirror stories, oh yes). This is a lovely angst-ridden story for Daniel fans especially, as SG-1 find themselves in an alternate universe... in the past, in particular at that moment (which every fan will know, oh yes) of little Daniel's life when his life fell apart. And our Daniel remembers it all too well to just turn around and leave him, thus setting up changes and complications that cannot easily (and maybe can't at all) be undone...

A well-written little Daniel, traumatised and in pain but still intelligent and so very him, lots of wrenching suffering both physical and emotional for both Daniels, heaps of team support and empathy, Jack's all too well known bond for children made even more so by who the child is... and out of it all a happy ending in at least one universe. What's not to love?

Why This Must Be Read: In that nebulous time of transition between the end of S8 and the beginning of S9, all of SG-1 - Jack, Sam, Teal'c, Daniel, and Jonas - achieve a rare moment of togetherness to contemplate their uncertain future.

I like the friendships, the reluctance to drift away, the tentative anticipation of where they might find themselves going. Add the bittersweet coda of a certain throwaway line from S10, and you'll find yourself wishing that the teaminess they share would have a way to last forever.

Why This Must Be Read:

Summary by the author:
Visiting an abandoned outpost leads to some amazing discoveries but with dire consequences. Rodney and the team battle a racing clock as they begin to lose Sheppard a little at a time.

The concept of "Ten" is a fascinating idea and Kristen does a great job to make him likeable even though we can't approve of his actions. I find him endearing and creepy at the same time - especially when the success of his actions starts to show and reaching the goal comes closer step by step. It's a lesson in perspective - how judgment of actions and attitude very much depends on our own point of view and who is the person judged.

Kristen shows each teammember's typical reaction to ten in an excellent way, how they deal with the result of his actions and how they stick together in this situation.

Particularly Rodney being torn between fascination and necessity is spot on illustrated.

This story has the flair of classic science-fiction and would have made a wonderful episode.
