Why This Must Be Read:

I love when the Atlantis crew are stranded in Pegasus and, in spite of that, manage to flourish and declare independence from Earth.

The author has a smart John Sheppard here, who knows how to get things done and uses the Pegasus natives they encounter to build new alliances. The alliance runs Atlantis and is fighting the Wraith.

Jack doesn't show up until half way through, but he's a major player and uses his clout to make sure the Lanteans get a fair shake from Earth.

The story is complete, but there are lots of threads that the author could use to write more and I do hope she does.

Go give this fic some love... it deserves it!

This story was originally written for a Rough Trade challenge. The fact that it's on the Wild Hare site and not her personal site means that Keira hasn't edited it and there's a note that it may never be edited. So there's a 'what you see is what you get' warning to be aware of. But if you don't subscribe to Wild Hare, you may miss seeing this story again. (And if you're one of the three people in fandom that have never read Keira's work, she doesn't tolerate concrit or begging for more. So don't.)

Another Atlantis-focused fic, but Jack O'Neill has a major part in this story.

It's a story of xenophobia, greed, and the IOA being total asshats (as Keira would say!).

After an IOA-sanctioned experiment by Carson Beckett on John Sheppard, but without John's knowledge or permission, a mutated virus got loose on Atlantis. It changes all those that survive to something other than human.

It's an interesting story about what makes us human, and how greed for powerful weapons and super-soldiers can skew one's morals.

Jack represents the US in this morality play, and -- even among his team mates -- is the only one who truly understands that 'people' are 'people'.

The Asgard are also major players in this story and we don't find out why until the end (which I'm not going to spoil!).

And interesting story with all of the major Stargate players.

Why This Must Be Read: I know not everyone likes reading het, but I can read pretty much anything that has either John Sheppard or Rodney McKay in it, so I like a lot of John/Teyla fics including the Legacy series. MGM made those writers turn the series back into Gen by the last couple of books, but there was a John/Teyla phase in the middle, and this is fanfiction for that stage of the Legacy series.
This story's about an established relationship where John's become Torren's dad, and is returning home after a visit to the SGC. There's some character development about him resolving things with Dave and his home being Pegasus, and Teyla coming to terms with what Torren's future might hold. Recommended.

Why This Must Be Read: This is not of course pure het, but as a genderbending fic, there are lots of interesting contrasts between Sheppard as a woman and as a man, and her, or his, developing relationship with Rodney - given impetus as it turns out Rodney's the only one other than Sheppard who's aware of the changes. In this story Sheppard's sometimes male and sometimes female, thanks (probably) to those wacky Ancients again. There's angst and drama and an eventual resolution, and it's an excellent read.

Why This Must Be Read: Wingfic! Another classically cracky trope, right? Usually it's John getting the wings, but this time it's Rodney, and rather than growing wings being the fulfilment of a dream like it sometimes is for John, this is a novel-length exploration of Rodney having been forcibly mutated by Evil Aliens (for a change, not the Ancients). It's from John's POV, showing John's reactions to Rodney having been abused and changed, and with the pain Rodney experiences from the the huge bat-wings, straining human muscles and tendons not designed for them. Of course, that allows John a role in caring for Rodney, so we get the slashier side of the story developing. We see Rodney and John having to adapt and come to terms over time both with Rodney having the wings and with traumatically losing them. An excellent read, if you can handle a bit of body horror.

The same author has a similar series of fics which deal with Rodney being from Lovecraft's Innsmouth and turning into one of the fish monster creatures from that story and this fic is sort of an AU of that one (if that makes sense. That other series is also worth checking out btw). Basically, our team end up in this AU world, find out that Rodney's this giant creature and get suitably weirded out. Thankfully, their Rodney isn't one of them, right?

Right?

It's a weird concept and I read it mostly out of curiosity at first but it really drew me in. I love the way Rodney's reveal as something other than 100% human is done. There's also a section where John is forced to watch training videos from the SGC that had me howling.

Why This Must Be Read: At 30+K, this fic is long, but it's an investment of your time that you won't regret. John and Cam are beautifully portrayed as are all the guest stars in this story that, at its heart, is about the relationship and love between two military men, gorgeous in their imperfection and heroic hearts. A complex, yet easy to follow plot, and dialogue that would confuse the reader is handled with a consummate skill that leaves you with a bleeding heart, or laughing so hard you can't see the screen through your tears. An original twist on a tried-and-true fairytale trope that had me hanging of every word.
