Why This Must Be Read: This is some very nice hurt/comfort and action/adventure, where Teyla and Rodney are both moderately injured and have to look after each other while struggling to survive on a mission gone wrong. They're in a pre-existing relationship which is briefly alluded to, but overall this reads more like gen. Part of the "sticks and snark" Teyla/Rodney body of fics, and a great read.

Why This Must Be Read: Despite being labeled Sam/Jack, this is not only decidedly gen (to my gen girl eyes, at least) but really all about Janet: Janet the fierce little powerhouse, dressing down those that don't realize how good they have it. This is Sam and Janet friendship, and Sam integrity, and a fantastic Janet voice.

But Sam/Jack fans will probably like this too. So it's win-win for everyone! :)

Why This Must Be Read: This is a lovely character study of Radek adjusting to life on Atlantis and deciding that as he now lives on a floating city he needs to learn to swim. Teaching himself doesn't go so well, and Teyla helps. There's warmth and closeness between them, but not a full-blown pairing. It's a well-written portrayal of them both, told from Radek's POV.

Why This Must Be Read: At just under 67,000 words, this is in the "smaller novel" range, compared to the others I've recently reccd. It's an excellent read, and well-known, I'm sure. It's a quantum mirror story, and yes, there's grief in it, as the central premise is about various members of SG1 using quantum mirrors to search through the multiverse for team members they've lost in disasters. But it's enormously satisfying and the ending's not sad. Dira seems to write at least one major work in each fandom visited, and this was the SG1 longfic. I love Dira's writing, and this is no exception. It's grueling in places where the grief is fresh, but it's really about team, and the love between them all, in all the realities. One of my favourites.

Why This Must Be Read: Most SGA fans will know Auburn's novel-length fic Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves, the first in this series. There are two shorter (if you can call 11,000 words shorter!) follow-on fics that are also well-known (Killdeer and Everybody Knows). But hey - there are two new ones in the series! Beg, Borrow, or Steal was posted in October 2017, and the very latest one, Lawyers, Guns, and Money is still posting as a WIP - it's up to 9/26 chapters (ETA- it’s complete!). The last two fics are crossovers with NCIS LA and NCIS. So this already epic novel will have a novel-length sequel. I like the twists Auburn builds into the AU, with very different back-stories for John and Rodney, a lot of SG1 characters ending up in Pegasus including Janet Fraiser, prominent roles for Jack O'Neill and Vala, and Teyla as the runner, not Ronon. The non-con/violence is in flash-backs and canon-typical - what you expect when a Goa'uld controls your life. It's a great read - somewhat dark in places, yes, but as ever, Auburn's a master of plot and characterization. I'm not especially into NCIS, but I didn't have any trouble following those parts.

There's a fun feel to the whole plot, as well as a good mix of action, friendship, and romance, and it puts an interesting spin on some common science fiction tropes. Bonus is that if this story's not enough, Sailor's Wife also got some (unrelated) shorter and completed Sam/John fics that also explore their budding relationship.

But more and more wraith are waking up and it's a race to find a way to defeat them, when nobody really knows how Ancient technology works. I love the plot of this and I'm a huge fan of the way the author writes John and Rodney's relationship. They grow and become friends, and once the romance starts it's sweet and hot. Why This Must Be Read: In most of lone-ranger1's writing, what pops out at the reader is his ability to joke around with the characters and highlight the funnier aspects of the Stargate franchise. And "Murphy's Law of Snap Decision" isn't a story that takes itself too seriously - not at first. There are cliches and a variant of "Aliens Made Them Do It", as well as some veiled jabs on some other sci-fi tropes, but without it becoming laborious or boring. At the same time, the story brings forth the characters of Sam and John in an excellent way - and completely canon-compliant if you only count the TV series. They are shown as complex characters who have become friends during the time Sam is on Atlantis, and it is this friendship that fuels any further development of their relationship, which in turn makes it believable.

Summary by the author:
An exercise in world-building, beginning with a lower-decks view of Atlantis and spinning off into an independent city-state after Earth pulls the plug.
Includes MPreg, FemPreg, rambunctious (and remarkable) children, and eventually, a serious case of social adjustment issues. Better than it appears on the tin, or so I've been told. The series spans just over 20 years, all told.

Why This Must Be Read:

I have no clue on how to rec this one properly.

It's not so much a continuing series but rather four stories that put a spotlight on three different phases of the Atlantis-expeditions existence - in three different styles.

Sounds confusing? Yeah, thought so too and, since I'm not particularly fond of AUs, I didn't read it for years because of that. My mistake, don't make the same. *ggg*

The series diverges from canon in S2 and starts with "Letters to John Doe (A Diary of Sorts)" and it's told from an OC's POV, namely "Dr. Laura James, the Lone OB of Atlantis" who came with the Daedalus because "After the second time a set of bizarre flashing lights resulted in an alien pregnancy scare, Carson Beckett demanded that SGC send him a specialist. This was the result." It covers a year in Atlantis and is told in epistolary style. It's interesting to see Atlantis and the familiar characters through the eyes of a person who is not one of the main characters, a 'lower-decks view', as the author calls it, and I can very much relate to how she's feeling. Love this 'outsider who becomes an insider'-POV

The middle part consists of two stories that highlight events happening 3-4 years later:
"Extraordinary" - 'Tales from the playpens of Atlantis' - in which we get to know Atlantis' kids (narrative style) and its counterpoint "Captain's Log" - 'The official records of the commander of the USAF Icarus, sent to investigate the rumors that the Atlantis Expedition might still be alive', told in the Captain's log-entries in his official and personal log. Both stories cover the same period of time and reach a point of contact in a certain situation.

It's an intriguing style and I love the humor that manages to be funny without crossing the line into comedy/slapstick. The author did a great job by putting together this kind of series/stories and I just can't do it justice in my attempt to recommend it.

The fourth story, the last part, is called "B.A.N.D. Camp" - 'Basic Acclimation & Non-Disclosure Camp was designed to facilitate the integration of children raised off-world into Earth Culture for the express purposes of higher learning (university attendance)' and shows the kids from "Extraordinary" attending said camp.

They're true 'Lanteans and those 'social adjustment issues' the author was talking about in her summary? Yeah, that's happening here. They're perfectly adjusted to Atlantis and Pegasus - to Earth? Not so much.

I fell as hard for those kids as I have fallen for their parents ten years ago. :-)

I don't think it makes much sense to post snippets of the fics, their style is too different and no
matter what part I choose, it would end up raising the wrong expectations. So, even if you think these stories hold no appeal for you - give them a try, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.
