Why This Must Be Read: Because there's a concensus among Sparky fans that John and Elizabeth could have been realistically having sex in practically every episode from the beginning. (There's even a ficathon-type challenge called notjustclosets that's hosting such a premise, of which Lone_Pyramid is a mod.) Anyway, this piece explores how certain traumatic events and near-death experiences lead to sex.

Lots and lots of sex.

But it's not just about smut. The best so-called PWP are always the one that factor in the emotional, not just the physcial. If you're gonna write explicit smut for five different episode tags, it takes an immense amount of skill and characterization to keep the audience hooked on your every word. Lone_Pyramid does it with style. The desperate must-have-sex now of her pieces is nicely contrasted by "having sex" and "making love." There's a difference, and the LP captures those emotions with a deft hand.

Go. Read. Then leave a review if your brain is still coherent enough to string together words afterwards. 'Cause seriously, gah.

Why This Must Be Read: Another post-Lifeline fic that explores the dark implications of what could have happened to Elizabeth in Oberoath's clutches. It's chilling, and beautifully written. I especially admire writer's who can make the stories as much about the way it's told than about what's being told. The language is a part of the story, and Sugargroupie's prose is wonderful and moving.

This story perfeclty exudes Elizabeth's strengths, too, as well as her weaknesses. It pulls no punches. I love the interaction she has in here with all the characters - John, most of all, but there's glimpses of Teyla and Ronon too.

Plus, there's damn hot smut.

Why This Must Be Read: Sparky fans write an obscene amount of plenty Alternate Realities/Universes fics that cast the SGA characters into new roles/positions. From international spies down to the wild west, there's awe-worthy AUs left and right in the Sparky corner of the universe.

Miera, here, writes an AU story about an alternate version of Elizabeth Weir and John Sheppard meeting as undergraduates at a university in Boston, Massachusetts. There's Rodney, Radek and Carson too, playing a wonderful supporting cast as John's roommates. This story is absolutely great to read because it's lighthearted and grin-inducing. College!John is so adorable, you just kinda want to eat him up. I love the way Miera writes them both perfectly in character despite the fact that they're both vastly out of place in comparison to their roles in SGA. Plus, Miera pokes fun at Lucius Lavan, and who doesn't love that?

It's a great exploration of the evoling relationship, when they're both still awkward undergrads, and it's a fun a ride. ;)

Why This Must Be Read:  This is a story about Sam as much as it is about Cassie.  Set after Heroes, Cassie is working her way through the ubiquitous Seven Stages of Grief, hovering between Denial and Anger.  And did I mention the anti-social rebellious teenage componant?  Sam is trying to move through her own feelings of inadequacy and the pain of going from "favored auntie" to "substitute maternal figure."  Daniel is lending a hand and the porch conversation between Sam and Daniel is beautifully drawn with details that make the story play in your mind.  Well worth a read and a tissue.

How do you compete with something that close to perfection?

It's been an issue that many fanfic writers have tried to tackle, how could any woman live up to Sha're in Daniel Jackson's heart? Here  Janet struggles to come to terms with the fact that what Daniel shared with Sha're was so special that so she doesn't stand a chance. However when Daniel eventually admits to his feelings she discovers that it was because of Sha're that Daniel was able to offer her his heart and love her so completely. This is a beautifully written story and Chrysa has a wonderful way of describing emotions, both the good and bad, as well as using great imagery.

Why This Must Be Read: The team has come to a planet of Wraith-worshippers, and before they can escape, they're captured and imprisoned - all except for Teyla, who carries the Wraithgene. One reason I love this story is that Teyla's gene is both help and hindrance to her - it keeps her free, but it puts her into an invidious situation in order to rescue her team-mates. And Alli doesn't spare us the descriptions and the slow descent into fretting and fear for both Teyla worrying about the guys and the guys worrying about Teyla. It's a dark story, brilliantly written, and it keeps you on edge all the way through.

Ok, there will be a more formal admin post later. I have a few things I want to say. But I am going to keep the GRRRRRR.... out of this post and have a bit of fun!

In March, we are looking at something a bit different. St. Patrick's Day and Easter are happening within a week of one another... that is within seven days. :)

So what I'm going to do is open this post for rec'cers. One volunteer to rec St. Patrick's Day-themed fic and one volunteer to rec Easter-themed fic. (And I know it's out there... I've written some. *g*)

Why This Must Be Read: I love Conversion!John/Teyla stories - it's a rare breed, but an extremely logical conclusion given the connection between them because of the Iratus bug in Teyla's Wraithgene and the Iratus infection in John. There's so much power in a connection and a relationship developed between them because of that commonality, and the potential of it is beautifully realised in 'Evangela'.

This story doesn't stop at an edgy John, or an accomodating Teyla, but drives further and deeper into the psyche of what it means to a man like John Sheppard to become 'other', what 'ridding the galaxy of the Wraith' really means to Teyla within the context of Bug!John and herself, within the context of the experiments on Michael. It's hot sex, but it's not just about the hot sex; it's their relationship, but it's not just about their relationship; there's Atlantis in there, their relationships to their team-mates, their personal drives and personal prejudices, and all described in exquisitely earthy and raw language that just blows me away every time I read it.
