Why This Must Be Read:  While on a mission to another world, a soothsaying woman warns both Jack and Daniel, individually, of Daniel's impending death on Kelowna.  She also warns them, though, that to try to change that event will have unexpected and tragic consequences.  Both men's responses speak perfectly of their individual characters and their feelings for each other.  And what remains is not the chance to change the future, but to change the present.

Why This Must Be Read: Circa Season 9, Earth's population has been decimated by the Ori plague, and those that remain alive are at the proselytizing mercies of the Priors.  Amidst the destruction, Daniel, along with Mitchell and Vala, journies to Washington D.C. in search of Jack.  This long, plotty story offers action and drama aplenty in this "what if" novel, while believably and touchingly exploring the dynamics between three members of the new SG-1 and those of the old, time-proven relationship between Daniel and Jack.  Along the way, the author gives us the Daniel we know and love - one shaped by intelligence, love, courage, loyalty, and ineffable humanity.

Why This Must Be Read: Season four has spawned a massive number of angsty Sheppard/Weir fic, but this one is my absolute favorite of all of them. I think this is one of those stories where even non-S/W fans can appreciate, because it's so well written and the possibility that it could have gone down like this was only too real. It's the story of one possible way Elizabeth could have returned to the fold, but after going through so much, after so long, it isn't at all an easy transition. peanutbutterer has a gift for narration and prose, and her characterization is haunting.

Emotional. Moving. Agnsty. Oddly hopeful all at the same time. And you'll be feeling the impact of the last sentence for days.

Why This Must Be Read: Because enough with the angst already. How about something that'll make us all grin stupidly while reading? aj managed to write Sheppard/Weir in a way that just leaves you feeling happy - not quite fluff, because it's not sickly sweet. But it is lighthearted and carefree, and has wonderful characterization.

AJ wrote this for the swficathon, and the prompt was "Holidays on Earth, John somehow gets to meet Elizabeth's family, UST at first please, and then RST.” She took that prompt and managed to write one of the best entries there with it. It's simple and straightforward, and it's always the little things in AJ's fics that make you feel so good.

Damn good stuff.
