While this is the last fic in a series, it stands alone well. There's enough in the story to tell you what's going on. The basic premise of the series is that our SGA crew (John, Rodney, Ronon, Teyla, Kannan and Torren) have fled Atlantis to somewhere in Pegasus rather than be treated as the enemy.

I love how Auburn wraps up the series in a 'feel good' way. And Jack is just Jack.

This is the happy ending we all want.

Siria's a lovely writer who tells the tale well, with great characterisation. An excellent read, and a nice reminder of the well-named sticks and snark LJ community of days gone by.

I love it because it’s a brief sex scene but it’s one of the most sensual stories I know, while still perfectly capturing their characters. Torch uses a great style with long, almost stream of consciousness sentences which add to the hot, dreamy mood.

Why This Must Be Read: I know not everyone likes reading het, but I can read pretty much anything that has either John Sheppard or Rodney McKay in it, so I like a lot of John/Teyla fics including the Legacy series. MGM made those writers turn the series back into Gen by the last couple of books, but there was a John/Teyla phase in the middle, and this is fanfiction for that stage of the Legacy series.
This story's about an established relationship where John's become Torren's dad, and is returning home after a visit to the SGC. There's some character development about him resolving things with Dave and his home being Pegasus, and Teyla coming to terms with what Torren's future might hold. Recommended.

Why This Must Be Read: This is not of course pure het, but as a genderbending fic, there are lots of interesting contrasts between Sheppard as a woman and as a man, and her, or his, developing relationship with Rodney - given impetus as it turns out Rodney's the only one other than Sheppard who's aware of the changes. In this story Sheppard's sometimes male and sometimes female, thanks (probably) to those wacky Ancients again. There's angst and drama and an eventual resolution, and it's an excellent read.

Why This Must Be Read: IMHO, this is the way things should have worked in canon on so very many levels. As much as I loathed the episode "Threads", if things had gone like this, I'd have been happy to say goodbye to one of my favorite tv shows ever at this point with Sam and Jack finally deciding they could have their careers and each other. On a more lighthearted note, all of the team are spot on in this story and Sam's Aunt Lurie is an absolute hoot.

Why This Must Be Read: Actually, I was going to save this as my capstone rec, but decided to get it out there before the chance for 'summer reading' was mostly gone (TTH has options to download fic to a reader device/computer/phone). "A Different Future" is an epic length series with multiple crossovers that is worth every single little word and most published fiction these days doesn't hold a candle to it. The trust and friendship between Sam and Jack shine through brilliantly in this story, as does the UST. But when it all comes down to it, this story is just a lovely read, perfect for curling up with in bed at the end of a long day. The sequel is just as good, but that's a rec for another day. ;)

Why This Must Be Read: I went looking for some older Jack O'Neill fic that could use some love. Found an entire AU universe I never knew existed!

This specific story is one part of an entire series called "The House That Jack Built (Stargate AU)" that is very roughly based on the idea of The Big Bang Theory. I haven't had a chance to read them all, but there are 32 (!) stories in this universe, written by a handful of writers.

This particular story seems to be how Jack and Sam get together. But there may be variations on that theme in the series! It'll be fun to find that out!

Why This Must Be Read: Another story in which a cracky trope - the magical healing cock - is given a kind-of serious pseudo-scientific (and kinky) treatment. Once again, some pesky bit of Ancient tech has its way with John, and it turns out his semen can now heal almost anything. A totally whacked premise, but trophic explores how shitty that would be for John, with his "leave no man (or woman) behind" issues. He can't just say no and leave one of the scientists, or one of his marines, dying of something he could fix, right? But it's hard to get it up under that kind of pressure which is where Jen Keller comes in. I like the way this story explores how this seeming magical power is the worst kind of bind for John, with Carson ethically blinkered, focused only on John saving patients. I also like how it makes the Sheppard/Keller pairing work - for me, anyway - I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea. But for those willing to try a rarepair with Jen as a gentle dom, this is highly recommended.

Earth is lost to a combination of the Ori and the Trust, but Atlantis goes on, and survivors from Earth trickle in by various routes. As with all apocafic it's a tough premise, but the writing's excellent with our favourite characters struggling to adapt to, survive and escape after the catastrophe, making it a gripping read.

Why This Must Be Read: Written by a fellow Aussie, this fic explores the alternate universe proposed in the season 1 episode 'There But for the Grace of God.' There's a strong focus on the developing romantic relationship between Jack and Sam, but it also touches on the unusual pairing of Janet and Kawalsky. The fic flirts with a few other first season episodes including 'Children of the Gods' and 'The Broca Divide.' I hate to play favourites, but this fic stands out for me - I've read it two or three times. I think the story and characters are well developed and executed. Without spoiling the ending for those who haven't read it, there's two choices depending on your personal preferences. If you're a Jack/Sam shipper (or just a connoisseur of good fanfiction), this one will hit the right buttons - just keep a box of tissues handy, because it's heavy on the angst! The author also weaves in a few new characters, including the loveable Leslie, who fit perfectly into the universe.

In a way, 'Meet you on the Other Side' has elements of the 'Pride and Prejudice' about it (particularly in the first few chapters), but I choose to view the "borrowing" of familiar themes endearing - and I hope you do too! Happy reading!

Firstly, Colorado Hold 'Em (Cadman/Lorne) and then Cheyenne Noir (McShep). There are relationship pairings in both, and there's also a lot of great action and adventure - ShippenStand really excels at writing gripping plot. These two are favourites of mine and I can feel a holiday re-read coming on - highly recommended.
