Why This Must Be Read: This is a classic SG1 novel-length story, reccd here nine years ago so this is a reminder, and to add the Wayback link. It goes AU from canon after Jack gets snaked with a Tok'ra in 'the Abyss'. The story is partly plotty action/adventure, and partly Jack and the symbiote grappling with a traumatic, messed-up blending. At the fic's start Jack has repressed what's happened and we see his confusion. It's an amazingly well-written story in tight third person POV. I re-read it every few years - highly recommended.

Summary: Stargate SG-1 season 6 AU. The one where Ba'al's Jaffa got there thirty seconds faster.
There is no "both of you," he wants to say; it doesn't work like that.

Why This Must Be Read: Way back in the old days, Scribe was well known for her inventive, meaty, well plotted adventure stories. While most of her plots involve something to do with Daniel, everyone else is usually front and centre as well, with a strong emphasis on team friendship woven into the latest predicament SG-1 finds itself in ...and this story is no exception. Written not long after the episode first aired, this is (imo) one of the very best 'oops, something's not quite right' tags written for Fire & Water. It's original, dramatic, and even considering the serious situation the team faces, it's just plain fun to read.

And no matter how many times I re-read it, it never fails to touch my heart.

Why This Must Be Read:

Daniel finds that the planet SG-1 is currently on has a repository similar to the one they lost when they rescued Ernest... he's desperate to stay to study it and Jack's not so happy about that.

But Daniel gets his way and stays. At first, he gluts himself on study then finds he's forced to take a day of rest and the friends he's made take him off sightseeing. Daniel soon learns to relax and spends time with others, although thoughts of a certain Colonel do drift across his mind on occasion.

And that certain Colonel finds he's upset and missing his friend Daniel, who he finally realizes is more than a friend. It takes a misunderstanding and being caught in a sandstorm to set things right.

Except for the sexy parts, this could have been a fun episode!

Author's Summary: SG-1 finds an unwelcome surprise on an alien planet

This could have been an episode of SG-1. Denise claims this was her first fan fic, so there's a couple of teeny burbles, but in the end, it's an interesting story. The "A" implies it was written for SG_FigNewton's Soup challenges.

This is typical "mission gone awry" -- on what looks like a boring mission to search for Kheb, bad things happen. Sam gets hurt, Jack is forced to shoot Teal'c (it makes sense at the time) and they lose their GDO. There's a couple of moments of major worry, but I will spoil this enough to tell you that there's a good ending.

It's a satisfying story... long enough to be interesting, but not too long that you have to slog through anything.

This is a first person Teal'c story and his interpretation of events from an alien point of view is hilarious. You should remember how new Teal'c is to SG-1 at this point, that will make this even better.

Teal'c doesn't think much of Samantha Carter but he respects her as a teammate. But he calls Daniel "O'Neill's beloved" multiple times in this short fic. It's hysterical!

Teal'c physical reaction to Jack showing Daniel how to build a weapon to help defend themselves gives the NC17 rating -- it's not terribly explicit, but we all know what's going on there!

Daniel gets wings while in a temple on what should have been a routine mission (you'll figure that out pretty quickly, and it's tagged 'wingfic,' so it's not a spoiler). Jack gets all protective of his archeologist.

But being Daniel, he has to explore having wings, how it might have happened and how they work. All to Jack's consternation and frustration.

While this is a 'team' fic, it really is about Jack and Daniel, and what goes on in Jack and Daniel's relationship as Daniel immerses himself in his research.

Oh, and sex and feathers! That alone makes the fic worthwhile!

Why This Must Be Read: I adore Cassie and Teal'c friendship fics: the two aliens who have found a place on Earth, but still sometimes feel very much like outsiders. Teal'c offering consolation to Cassie, just after Heroes, is absolutely perfect.

The fic is labeled as "hints at Sam/Jack." This gen girl read it and wondered, "What hints?" So this works with whatever goggles you use. :)

He was her anchor, her alien uncle who reminded her that no matter how truly alien she may feel among the Tauri at times, this was exactly where she belonged.
