Why This Must Be Read: Author’s Summary: The past will always find you, especially if you have something it wants.

This one is focussed on Vala's backstory, as you might have guessed, but also on how Daniel has a unique insight into her and her personality, and it is this knowledge that is at the core of their relationship, along with a lovely supportive team. A dark fic, but also angsty and romantic, with a strong serving of hurt/comfort.

You see, Daniel? You might not have recognized what Sam did just now, let me explain it to you. )

Why This Must Be Read: An amazing story featuring a fantastical look at the pirate age in the Caribbean, featuring Vala who is known as "The Dread Pirate Qetesh." Vala is a vampire captaining a pirate vessel that also includes other fantastical creatures, and they take on one of the few remaining System Lords who once ruled the waters, Lord Ba'al. Lanna explores an incredibly amazing idea and gives hints of the background of the world she has created, mentioning other characters familiar to us and leaving us wondering about this world that Vala lives in. The banter between Vala and Ba'al is outstanding, and Lanna leaves us begging for more!

Author's summary: One body with its neck blown out is a puzzle; three identical bodies and a bunch of spooky Air Force types, well, that just makes DaVinci cranky. Or, to quote Cameron Mitchell, "That's a lot of Ba'als to keep in the air."

Why This Must Be Read:

First it was a striking Jack snippet on [livejournal.com profile] troyswann's journal that stood alone as a powerful vignette unto itself. Then it was a work-in-progress posted in sections as gifts for Martha. Now at last it's a gloriously completed fic: a suspenseful thriller with terrifically engaging original characters, a police procedural that crosses over into a fandom whose characters you don't have to be familiar with to appreciate, a sense-of-wonder science fiction story that builds a cool (and creepy) scenario from questions 'Deus Ex Machina' raised, and a gripping SG-1 adventure. And Jack is the linchpin, so I get to rec it here!

What if something came up that had such bitterly intense personal significance to Jack that he did not stay dutifully ensconced in his D.C. office, but made himself a player in the field again? What if his objective and SG-1's objective conflicted? This is a Jack who is very much still in the game, but who's fully capable of making mistakes, too -- smart and formidable and scary and weary and haunted and angry, pushing unstoppably toward a showdown that will not be what he or anyone else expects.

The fic's about 25,800 words, and the crossover source is DaVinci's Inquest. I hope you won't pass on this one because it's long or because it's a crossover. I had seen half an episode of the other show before reading this and I loved all the new-to-me characters. Salieri's writing is a joy from start to finish. It's a rockin' Stargate story. And it's a not-to-be-missed Jack fic.

Author's summary: Opposites attract, but when good and evil merge there are dangerous consequences for a member of SG-1.

Why This Must Be Read:
The author attempts an intriguing unorthodox pairing, which is where some fics crash and burn and others turn out to be so well written that you crave more of this pairing. Thankfully this author excels at the latter even if you have never considered it. The fic hits at many of Sam's inhibitions and slowly peels away layers revealing a vulnerable underneath the good abiding solider she is. Baal is crucial to her character development, while showing a different more complex character. Essentially the author captures the essence of both these character and writes one damn good story.

Why this must be read:

Heheheheh.

The last time I was reccing Slash(Other) I posted this gem which has since been named "Wrong." And it is, so so so wrong. Jack & Ba'al.

Oh, how I love Ba'al.

Mara wrote a sequel. This is it.

And please DO make a note of her icon.

Please don't forget to feed the author, and encourage her to write more of this wonderful stuff.
