Why This Must Be Read: Pure, honest-to-goodness, beautiful smutty CRACK. Most genderswap fics I've read get terribly caught up in melodrama and angst, but this? Brilliant. I giggled most of the way through, but while being very amusing it still manages to be a lovely piece of threesome erotica that illustrates Sheppard's being initiated into the wonders of sex as a female, by a female - two, in fact. I think it fits this category fairly well, and I love it.

Why This Must Be Read: I love everything that [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] writes, but I have a particular fondness for her threesome fics, because she doesn't treat anyone as lesser, or secondary, and that's just a pile of badness right there for me when I read a threesome fic. In this case, in a post-Atlantis, stuck-on-Earth world, John's looking for something, and when he goes to visit Elizabeth, he finds her, Rodney, and a whole new way of looking at things. Elizabeth has drawn them closer to her than they've ever been before, and they find a way to heal each other's emotional scars.

My favorite quote from the fic is right here: )

Why This Must Be Read: Aside from the fact that it was written for me, you mean? Tricia wrote this fic for the [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] ficathon, and this is a great portrait of a developing long-distance relationship. In their first moments together, they form a bond of mutual dislike of Kinsey, but their relationship doesn't move along smoothly. Two strong-willed women, both used to being in charge, in a relationship with no conflicts? Not. Gonna. Happen. And I like that Tricia makes that a part of this story. I highly encourage everyone to go and read this story, and then to prod her for a sequel. (We need a sequel. Oh, yes, we do.) Also nice is the whole attitude Tricia takes of "Heroes, what Heroes? Didn't happen." I like that in Janet fics.

Epilogue

Why This Must Be Read: Yes, this is a very long fic, and it's worth every word of it. The premise of the story is that Elizabeth Weir is gravely injured and comatose, so Rodney and John cook up a scheme to temporarily pull in an Elizabeth from an alternate universe to help out for a while. It seems very Prisoner of Zenda-ish, but it focuses more on exploring the differences between the two Elizabeths, and their relationships with the worlds they live in and people they interact with, than any sort of adventure or grand epic. That's a good thing, by the way, since one of [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s strengths as a writer is character interactions and development. The best part is the epilogue, though. Trust me, that's the payoff for the entire rest of the fic.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a Return I era fic, set in the six weeks that Elizabeth and Co. were stranded on Earth while the Ancients were occupying Atlantis. Sam comes upon Elizabeth in the mess, and sits down with her for a short chat. The comparison between their characters, and the contrast in their situations, is the gist of their situation, but I love watching these two interact. We need more good female friendship moments on both series, and this fic gives us that.

Why This Must Be Read: Because sometimes you need fluff, and for me, there's a fine line between acceptable fluff and the type that makes you want to hit your head against a desk repeatedly because it's just too damn sugary-sweet. This story is obviously the acceptable kind, although have no doubt. It's there simply to make you laugh and giggle and generally feel good without having to use a single braincell the entire time. The best kind of fluff makes you walk away with a smile on your face. This story does all of that.

Why This Must Be Read: Because it has John and Elizabeth racing through corridors, battling Wraith, and arguing over whether Batman or Superman is better, okay? Really, the humor in this fic is so wonderful and lively. It makes me crack up every time I read it, because how many other conversations would there ever be with John and Elizabeth discussing Batman's nipples? *g*

It's more friendship than ship, more humor than anything, and it's still one of my favorite S/W ficlets.

Why This Must Be Read: Because this story has a kink factor of twelve on a scale of one to ten. It takes the premise of "Duet" and then fugdes it to place Elizabeth inside John's body. Things get tense when, after a couple of days, certain personal barriers need to get crossed. And the best thing about it - besides the kink - is that it's perfectly in character the entire time.

...And did I mention kinky? The good kind, though, I assure you.

Oh, and then don't forget to check out her companion piece, How the Other Half Lives to see John in Elizabeth's body. Equally kinky.

Why This Must Be Read: [livejournal.com profile] tigs describes this a "post-Trinity McKay-Sheppard-Zelenka fix-it fic," and that is exactly what this is. Her characterizations of Rodney, Radek, and Sheppard are brilliant and dead-on, her prose is lovely to read, and the story is engaging and feels like something could have actually occured in the aftermath of Trinity.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a brilliantly crafted piece of apocalypse fic – dealing with the Ori. As well as dealing with the Sam/Cameron relationship there's canon reference to Sam/Jack but not so much that non Sam/Jack shippers should run screaming from the fic! It's based around Ripple Effect and gives a creepy glimpse into a nother universe.

Link: And You Peacemakers Go to the Same Place as Soldiers

Why This Must Be Read: I have to make a confession. And You Peacemakers Go to the Same Place as Soldiers was one of the top stories on my list to rec in the Samantha Carter category last month. Unfortunately, I’m not the only reccer out there with excellent taste, and it was already listed in the memories for that category. So I am sneakily reccing it for Episode Related instead. :)

It was one thing for Sam to discover that Jolinar's temporary possession of her body left her capable of using the healing device; in Seth, we see her badly shaken by her newly-found ability to use the ribbon device to kill. Julie gives us Sam in those days right afterwards, recovering from a disastrous mission in which she'd been forced to use the ribbon device again… and this time, with deadly consequences.

What follows, among the angst and anguish and struggle, is a fascinating character study into what makes Sam so wonderfully herself. There's her bitterness over Jolinar, and how the memories and emotions that the symbiote left behind are twisting her own feelings. There's her uncertainty of what she's become, and the knowledge of how she might have to use those abilities again. And there's the bulwark of her teammates' support, in every circumstance, ready to stand at her side when she needs them.

This wonderful story was one of my favorites in the [info]samcarterfic ficathon, and it comes with the highest of recommendations.

Past Perfect

Why This Must Be Read: In Past Perfect, Debby gives us Sam, who has wryly dubbed herself "The Guardian of Time," following Daniel as he makes a hasty detour down a street in St. Louis of 1969. What does Daniel plan to do, and should Sam stop him before the possible consequences turn disastrous?

I know there have been many fics written about chance encounters with SG-1's past during the events of 1969; but this one has an added poignancy for me, as the confrontation is quite deliberate. Sam finds herself capable of little more than minimal damage control: both in preventing Daniel from doing or saying too much, and inhelping him pick up the pieces afterwards.

With some nice character insight, good background color, and a lovely friendship feeling, Past Perfect is a thoughtful story that you're sure to enjoy.

Why This Must Be Read: John Sheppard is the Famous World War I Flying Ace, enjoying his Christmas Eve in the barracks when he gets the orders from above that Acastus Kolya, the infamous Red Baron, has appeared and he's to stop him with his trusty Sopworth Camel. But the Baron's got a surprise up his sleeve. I liked the fact that it's based on Snoopy's famous alter ego and that Kolya is the Red Baron, with some fun cameos from the other characters, like Teyla, who's been banned from the kitchens on Christmas Eve and Rodney the airplane mechanic. And, there's root beer.
