Why This Must Be Read: A couple of years after the events of Scorched Earth, the Gadmeer express a desire to meet Daniel Jackson by issuing an invitation the SGC cannot refuse. The plot thickens when the SGC receives an unexpected, vague caution from our allies.

Why does this invitation draw galactic attention? Are the Gadmeer as peace-loving and trustworthy as Lotan led the team to believe? How reliable is the shocking tale the Gadmeer tell about the race who wiped out their planet? Is the gift offered to Daniel legitimate and, if so, what will he decide to do with it?

There are a few, quiet moments in which each member of the team acknowledges, and deals with, the trauma of Daniel’s death. This was largely denied us onscreen so it’s doubly satisfying here. It’s odd to be recommending a story told from Sam’s point of view in the "Daniel Jackson" category but don’t let the narrator fool you; this is about who Daniel is and what makes him Daniel.

That said, it stays firmly within team fic territory, in which all of SG-1 are present and have important roles within the story. The characters are well-written and easily recognizable as what I see on my screen each week. While SG-1 and the Gadmeer negotiate an understanding, the story ties together some dangling story threads from canon and sheds light on a distant past that some might prefer to keep buried.

Rising from the Abyss by TheOneRing (PG-13)

Rec Category: Angst

Pairing: No pairing
Category: Gen, Drama, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Jack/Daniel Friendship
Warning: Language, Extreme angst (not quite suicidal)
Author on LJ: I don't know.

Link: Rising from the Abyss by TheOneRing

Why This Must Be Read: This story takes place sometime in season 5. In this story, Daniel has fallen into some sort of fissure in the ground, and has a Grace-like hallucination that helps him get through until rescue comes. During this time, he thinks about his friendship with Jack.

In all the times I've watched the show and seen how the Jack & Daniel friendship changed during season 4, especially, I've tried to explain it away in my mind in one way or another. At first I had a very dark view of those times on the show. Other times I have a milder, happier view. In this story, TheOneRing delved deeply into the more extreme dark side of what Daniel could have been feeling during that time, especially considering he was suffering from injuries and not thinking quite clearly.

The author used short quotes from various episodes to represent various fleeting thoughts or flashbacks Daniel may have been having. The story has a mostly happy ending with Jack offering an explanation as to why he'd behaved as he did, and Daniel struggling to understand both Jack and himself.

A Friend in Need by aurora novarum (PG)

Warning: No warning, but spoilers for Season 9 (Avalon)
Author on LJ: I don't know.

Why This Must Be Read: This story takes place during Avalon and is told from Teal'c's point of view. It fills in some of the gaps on the show about why Teal'c stayed at the SGC even after he knew that Daniel was okay (the first time). I don't want to give too much away, but this story captures the mood of Teal'c and the scenes in Avalon perfectly. Her characterizations of Daniel, Teal'c, Vala, and Mitchell are exactly as I see them. It's a warm-fuzzy story without going overboard with the angst or the comfort. It's an inside look at Teal'c's view of events and also Teal'c's view of the other characters. This is my personal favorite of all the stories that I have read by this author.

Hi, I will be recc’ing McKay and Beckett this month.

So, lets start.

  Rec Category:. Character
  Pairing: Non
  Category: Rodney McKay
Warnings: Spoilers from Hide and Seek.
  Author on LJ: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=z_rayne
  Author's Website: http://zoerayne.slashdom.com/
  Link: http://zoerayne.slashdom.com/fic/affinity.html

Why This Must Be Read: The author is one of my favourites, specially when it comes to wounded Rodney slash McSheppard. This is not slash but a tag for the ep. Hide and Seek. It shows our hero’s thoughts while going inside the creature to save the day. I like it because it shows how lonely Rodney is at the beginning of the adventure.

Why This Must Be Read: Simply, poor Major Davis is having a very bad day. Even if you're not a Davis fan, you can't help but feel for him.

On top of waking up in a latex-smelling, playdough type harness hanging several feet above the ground at the SGC, there's an alien impersonating him, Harry Maybourne's to the rescue and he's been getting all sorts of confusing signals from a certain archealogist who apparently while interested in him, but who also appears quite interested in Jack O'Neill.

But there's a surprise.

It's a good fic, in which you get to see the SGC from the eyes of our very favorite Pentagon Paper Pusher. Characters are true to form, and there's a surprise ending that I didn't see coming.

Hi everyone! I'm Tommygirl and I will be driving the Sheppard/Ronon, SGA category this month. Please bear with me as I'm very picky when it comes to this ship and it's still a very young ship in comparison the Sheppard/McKay of the world.

Rec Category: Sheppard/Ronon
Pairing: Sheppard/Ronon
Category: John Sheppard/Ronon Dex, Stargate Atlantis
Warning: Slash, spoilers for this past season - so if you're behind, well, yeah - read with caution

Why This Must Be Read:

Rather than cheat and recommend every separate story that has slowly become this interwoven ongoing set of stories (though they can be read without one another - though I wouldn't recommend it and doubt, once you start, you'd want to anyway), but figured I would simply start with this story. When it was written, it was a stand-alone and works well as that.

It's set in Ronon's first days on Atlantis and Bone really captures his lost feeling and his attempts (sometimes inability) to really fit in on the world, except around Sheppard. Because Sheppard is someone, though very different from him in many ways, that he relates to a great deal.

The first story is just really the characters interacting and light slash. I will warn, if you go on with entire series of stories, it gets more graphic (in a very HOT way).

The characters sound right to me, the setting and pace of the story is magnificent, and it is one of those stories that will set your bar for this ship very high. At least, it did for me.

A small excerpt from the story... )

So go read and enjoy and leave feedback.

Oh, and if you want to continue on, here is the link to the entire series of stories thus far (most are set up after events in episodes of the 2nd season!)

Why This Must Be Read:
Paul thinks he's got Daniel figured out...and things go downhill from there.

The story starts off simply enough, Davis thinks Jackson is flirting with him, and then Daniel gets flustered after Paul kisses him.

Daniel then asks plaintively,"What is it about me? I mean, you're the second guy this week who's tried to come on to me." and "...But what is it about me that makes me irresistible to bisexual men?"

Paul and Jack end up in the same bar, and Paul quickly realizes who Daniel's other man was.

Good points: both Paul and Jack stay masculine and true to characters as we know them. I'm not partial to most slash since far too many writers make their boys a little too in touch with their inner females. I hope that doesn't anger anyone, but that's just how Sel feels.

Bonus: O'Neill gets several good O'Neill lines in this story.
