Why This Must Be Read: This story takes place sometime in season 5. In this story, Daniel has fallen into some sort of fissure in the ground, and has a Grace-like hallucination that helps him get through until rescue comes. During this time, he thinks about his friendship with Jack.
In all the times I've watched the show and seen how the Jack & Daniel friendship changed during season 4, especially, I've tried to explain it away in my mind in one way or another. At first I had a very dark view of those times on the show. Other times I have a milder, happier view. In this story, TheOneRing delved deeply into the more extreme dark side of what Daniel could have been feeling during that time, especially considering he was suffering from injuries and not thinking quite clearly.
The author used short quotes from various episodes to represent various fleeting thoughts or flashbacks Daniel may have been having. The story has a mostly happy ending with Jack offering an explanation as to why he'd behaved as he did, and Daniel struggling to understand both Jack and himself.
