Why This Must Be Read: Ending this month of tentacle-fic on a consensual note with Jennifer and Rodney bringing the fact that Jennifer TURNED INTO AN ACTUAL HOT DAMN TENTACLE MONSTER into their bedroom, after she's human again. As Busaikko once said, SGA is the fandom with real live tentacle penetration - the sort of thing other fandoms can only dream about. (Sadly not the sexy kind on the show, sorry John and Ronon.) This is really great, sweet and hot, as Jen's brush with almost becoming a Hive ship enlivens her and Rodney's fantasy life. I also love how tentative and real they are, stumbling toward discovering that it's a secret turn-on for them both. Great character voices, as ever, and it's funny as well.

Why This Must Be Read: The summary says AU featuring Rodney McKay as a U.C. Berkeley physics professor who absolutely cannot stand the new faculty hire, John Sheppard. Although not intentional, this ended up being very "You’ve Got Mail"-ish.

Rodney has been wrangled by Elizabeth into appearing on the Interdisciplinary Faculty Feud contest team which incidentally also has the new faculty member John SHeppard whom everyone likes except Rodney. In the meantime he has also joined an online RPG game in the role of Chief Science Officer Dr David Hewlett set in the city of Atlantis alongside Major Joseph Flanigan, USAF the CMO with whom he is fast becoming friends. I bet you can see where this is going.

I for one love the movie You’ve Got Mail which this fic is a superb twist not to mention the cameo roles of the real actors names. Also when I first went online back in 1998 I was a member of one of these such email/IM RPG games and they were so much fun and incidentally and its from there I created my username so thats one of the reasons why I have a fondness for this fic

Why This Must Be Read:

It's the third story of a series called "Salt on a Wound", it could completely be read as a standalone though the author considers "Apples" and "Sacrificial Drift" as the past happenings (back in Season 1) for this story.

How to describe this piece - best to use just one word: "epic"

According to the time stamp in the story it begins "11 October 2009, Pegasus, M4T-455 Elbix". The plot diverges from canon and weaves Atlantis and Earth (read: SGA an SG-1) together into a truly huge, epic, adventurous plotline in which, just like in real life, the lines between who are the good guys and who are the bad ones get blurry and depend heavily on the angle from which you watch the situation. There's no black or white in this regard but it's a thousand shades of grey because you can truly understand motivations, ideals and why people act like they do.

For the longest time I didn't dare to read that story because - Auburn. She has no fear of the dark and she's so good that her stories really hurt me when she decides to go darkside or even just ambigous with the plot and the end. I just don't like my heroes dead or portrayed as old geezers. ;-)

So, for the faint of heart (like me): our SGA-team is alive and well in the end though they have to undergo pretty hard times that test their loyalties, break them up temporarily and place them temporarily on opposite sides of the fence.

Though this one actually has a happy end (for our SGA core team though SG-1 doesn't get away so lucky) and throughout it all, you still feel the underlying feelings of being loyal to each other, of not considering the other one(s) as the enemy (on the contrary) - it goes so far that even John secretly ... well, I won't give away too much but Teyla then has to ... *zips mouth shut*

It's a long read, sometimes bittersweet if you think what could have been accomplished years earlier had it not been for the deeds and actions of the one or other person or a situation turning out just *so*. It's pretty much like real life but since our heroes are exactly that - heroes - it's all a size bigger: the love, the loss, the hurt, the happy and it ends in a big relived sigh of "Thank God, it worked out" by the reader.

Why This Must Be Read: I just love SGA alternate Universes and this one has it in spades. When Atlantis - upon returning to the Pegasus Galaxy from Earth - breaks apart in hyperspace, only John is saved from the debris. The group of Ancients that retrieved him offer him a bargain: Either he helps them make corrections in some universes, where things have gone wrong, or they put him back where he was found. Reluctantly accepting, John embarks on a lonely journey through a multitude of universes until he finally reaches the place he could again call home. This fic is sort of SGA meets Quantum Leap as John hops from alternate universe to alternate universe

I swear, it's impossible for me to read a serious sardonicsmiley fic without tears streaming down my face. Dirge is no exception. Sardonic takes us through five funerals Rodney attends throughout the alternate timeline from "Last Man Standing", and boy does she pile on the grief! As each funeral progresses, Rodney is left further and further alone until at the very end he's left alone above the graves of his wife and unborn child. Sardonic weaves a man who's resolve to fix this is getting stronger and stronger as well as a man who is drawing away from the world bit by bit. You'll be left with a Rodney whose determination to save his family and fix the world is set in stone, a man on a mission, that we see the end result of in the future of this episode. Enjoy the journey, folks, it's an emotional one to be sure.

Why this must be read:

Heart and Soul provides a look into a Rodney McKay that's a bit insecure and is showing the scars from his past. Rodney's reluctant to share his music with his friends due to being told in the past that's he's no good. Not being able to do something you love because someone else has ruined it for you has been a pain that everyone has experienced, I think, and to see the proud and strong McKay brought to it is just painful. Yet, Mad shows us how Teyla and others in Atlantis have started to show Rodney that you don't have to be perfect nor a prodigy to enjoy what you love and make beautiful music together. When Rodney starts showing Teyla how to read Earth music at the end, I had to smile as he's come a long way. This is a wonderful look at scars healing with the help of friends. You'll enjoy reading Rodney enjoying his music again just as much as he enjoys the playing. :)

Why This Must Be Read: The author is able to give so much insight into Ronon's history by just giving him the POV in this story. She does a wonderful job of giving us small glimpses that ring so true, and the way that she builds up the relationship between Ronon and Jennifer is slow and gentle and so believable. You can feel the need they have for each other on a fundamentally emotional level, not just physically. All of that together makes this fic definitely worth the read.

I liked it all so much that I had a difficult time even coming up with the best excerpt because I wanted to copy and paste the whole thing!

After reading the first few pages I realized that I'd been waiting for just this: a story that acknowledges and untangles the changes in the characters and their relationships. This story was practically begging to be written and I'm so happy it found a writer who does all the characters justice.

I'm reccing this in the Keller category, but this would fit just as well with Sheppard. Or McKay. They all get their spot in the limelight, and even though this is a Jennifer/Rodney fic, this story is at heart about John and Rodney's friendship... about the three of them figuring out how to deal with the shifts in their relationships.

No doubt, three of the most socially awkward people on Atlantis would have a hard enough time with that without being trapped and hunted by zombies...

John is dealing with his teammates' love lives just like any other emotional issue: by ignoring the situation and hoping it goes away. But when a mission gone wrong traps John, Rodney and Jennifer a thousand feet beneath New Lantea's ocean -- injured and out of touch with Atlantis, with the clock running down and a mysterious enemy in pursuit -- they're either going to have to work out their differences ... or die trying.
