nostalgia_lj has a special gift for -- well, she has many special gifts, but one of them is for understated creepiness. In this chilly little fic, the Asgard don't quite put Jack back right after "Lost City". Seen through Daniel's eyes, he's simultaneously utterly Jack and utterly ... something else.

Thor said that they'd have to keep Jack off Earth in case he broke it. Or rather, Thor said more eloquently, and Daniel subconsciously translated it into Jack. Jack is a language not easily learned by aliens, and Daniel has spent the last seven years running phrases back and forth because the literal translations would have got them kicked back through the 'gate.

This is one of my favorites from the

sd_ficathon. The two of them get stranded off world in an awkward situation. Which leads to a few more awkward situations as the plot and their relationship progresses. And they act like real people, a real couple. One of the highlights of this fic is that they actually argue, and that is kind of a rare thing to find in S/D fic.

The core of this fic is their friendship, so even if you don't ship them you'll probably still enjoy this.

Why This Must Be Read: This is the type of fic that must be printed out and (re)read over and over and over (and over) again. Told from Daniel's perspective, it has perfect characterisation of all characters, great insight into the relationships between not only Sam and Jack, but also the rest of SG-1 (Sam and Daniel in particular) and is very cute (for the Sam/Jack) while at the same time remaining sad for what used to be between Sam and Daniel. A must read for every Sam/Jack (and even Sam/Daniel) fan.

moonshayde shows us the strange and unsettling sensation of seeing a duplicate SG-1 team, where it's the small differences that set them apart.

And then we have the heart breaking reflection on seeing Janet and Martouf again.

This is an excellent post episode fic for Tin Man. It deals with them trying to adjust and explore their new bodies and world. Unlike some fics based around this episode, the team doesn't gel together, instead they spend a lot time apart because they're not exactly who to believe and are unsure where the similarties end with their flesh and blood counterparts. zorb takes off from the end of "Tin Man" to explore what the early days of life on Harlan's planet were like for the robot team. Told from Daniel's PoV, she gives us a richly detailed story about adjusting to new lives and exploring what it means to be alive and what it means to be mechanical and how much who you are matters when you know you're a robotic replica of yourself. Each member of the team reacts differently and wonderfully in character and it's especially well done that this is obviously the team of season one - the team that hasn't yet experienced and learned so much about each other and the universe, the team that hasn't fully developed the trust and understanding we get later.

In many ways Jack has the hardest time adjusting, Teal'c is the most calm about the changes and Daniel is still largely tied to Sha're, but it is Sam who undergoes the biggest changes as she adjusts to her new world. This is ultimately a Daniel/Sam story, but there is also a lot to love for people who aren't interested in that pairing.

Why This Must Be Read: While studying the Sam/Daniel memories of this comm in order to determine my next rec, I realized suddenly that this classic Sam/Daniel fic had never been recced, at least not in this category! I had to remedy that immediately.

Taste is a amazing and intense fic. It takes place after Daniel has descended, and he's... different. Not alarmingly different, but just enough. Just enough to push things with Sam, despite her relationship with Pete. They find themselves in a rather intense and secret relationship that they try their hardest to believe is based only on sex. But this is Sam and Daniel, and their natural intimacy just cannot be denied...

This fic is a must in the curriculum for any fan of Sam/Daniel.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a brand new story just posted today, but as soon as I read it I knew it would be my first rec for Sam/Daniel this month. It's a beautiful look at Daniel's life and the women who have gained his love, and who have loved him in return. From his mother to Sarah to Sha're to Sam, I think Daniel has always been a little in awe of how they love him. Abyssinia writes a beautiful set of snapshots to Daniel's life, past to present and back again, always borrowing heavily from the archeology he loves so passionately.

I label this a Sam/Daniel story because out of all his relationships in the story, his relationship with Sam is the one not proven in canon. And yet it is woven into the fabric of his life in a very real way.

This will be a wonderful read not only to Sam/Daniel fans but to those who are simply Daniel fans as well. Abyssinia is a (mostly) gen writer with a guilty penchant toward Sam/Daniel. By all means, go and lay gifts at this new (SG) writer's feet and make sure she stays a good long time with us! :)

Why This Must Be Read:

Exploring alternate realities is a recurring theme in the Stargate universe, and is a virtual goldmine for all of us fic afficionados. All those possibilities; the might have beens, the consequences we never saw, the romances that were only ever hinted at, the times when things went wrong. An episode like "Ripple Effect" is a great jumping off point for fic that plays with these concepts.

BadgerGater sets this fic within the episode, imagining that Sam has become a little curious as to the different lives (and loves) her alternate selves have. It's fantastic to glimpse some of the alternate Sam's personalities in the short interludes and the sheer amount of references to past episodes and situations is brilliantly done.

This is definitely not to be missed.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a dark but well written drama. In this story, Daniel with Sam and Jack have survived an apocalyptic event on Earth. They as well as others of the human race have been saved and live on a ship. The ship and its journey are secondary to the emotional trauma the characters undergo. Jack is responsible for the survival of the remnants of Earth and his darkest behavior surfaces in order to cope with the situation. Sam must work to keep the ship running and her outlet is her best friend, Daniel. Meanwhile Daniel wanders the ship keeping both Jack and Sam alive. He offers himself to both of them as a release and as a friend. Each treat him differently but he continues to support them throughout. This is an intimately dark story with sad undertones and themes. It is well written and gave me the chills as I read it.

I chose to wait until this week to rec this fic. It's just Sam and Daniel in Atlantis (sorry, no one actually from Atlantis makes an appearance). However, it does show their relationship with the Atlantis team along with each other. They meet on a balcony just trying to spend some time together. The dialogue is sharp and the characterization is almost perfect. It's just a wonderful moment that we'll probably never see on screen (even the friendship part anymore).

I found this late last night, and I'm glad I stuck it through to the end. The first part of the story almost seems like a team-fic, with all of them at Janet's while Cassie's birthday party goes on. However, Sam seems oblivious to Daniel and he's getting kind of annoyed over it. It has some wonderful snarky dialogue between the team during the first part. The second part is just Sam and Daniel, that night, when they decide that they do want to try this relationship out. It's got a nice blend between the romance, slight angst, and the humor. This is a really good fic, and I'm glad I found it.
