Why This Must Be Read: Because the author manages to beautifully protray the friendship between two characters you don't often get to see interact much on the show. Teyla's POV is difficult for most authors to get, but
canadian_snoopy is one of the few authors that not only understands where Teyla is coming from, but also elaborates on it. I never really thought about the loneliness Teyla must feel coming from a culture of interconnectedness that the Athosians have, to one of isolation in Atlantis. Her unlikely friend in the course of adjusting to it turns out to be McKay, and their friendship is just achingly beautiful. Teyla and McKay remain completely in character. I hesitate to call this a shipper piece, because the romantic aspects are really only in the last couple of lines. It's mostly about Teyla and McKay growing to be close friends.
