Why This Must Be Read:

In a demonstration of my awesome luck when it comes to fic exchanges, this was written for me as well. It’s short and funny and kind of sweet – Teyla and Cadman are trapped in a mysterious chamber off-world, and even if the story wasn’t wonderful (which it is) it’d be worth reading for the reveal of what the chamber’s for.

Havoc does a great job of creating a life on Atlantis beyond the main cast, and a life for Teyla beyond just her interaction with the team – we barely see her with anyone other than Laura in the story, but her bond with Elizabeth in particular really shines through, as does how much she feels part of the Atlantis mission.

sga_flashfic's 'Culture Clash' challenge, this is set mid-season 1, after "The Storm". It's quite clearly season 1 Elizabeth and Teyla, with Elizabeth still feeling her way into her role as a leader, trying to learn to defend herself and with Teyla still not a part of the mission, struggling with the foreign culture and Elizabeth being taken aback by the different view of relationships Teyla has because of it. It's as much a character portrayal of both of them as it is a story about their relationship and it works beautifully on both accounts. Go forth and read :)

Why This Must Be Read: How much do I love this fic? How much do I envy this writer? This rec is leavened by serious quantities of jealousy. :) But in a good way. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] writes a Teyla stripped of memories, and yet still herself in so many ways, and an Elizabeth who is determined to give her friend everything she can. The quiet longing that underscores both women's interaction is incredibly heartwrenching, especially given what we all know about the standard amnesia trope on-screen. (Turning those tropes on their heads is what fanfic is all about, though, isn't it?) This author writes a quiet, understated strength in both Elizabeth and Teyla, and neither one takes away from the other. Writing these two women together can be difficult, because they're so similar in some ways, yet so different in others, and this author manages it deftly, and in a way that I absolutely adore.

Why This Must Be Read: I have long, long lamented the serious lack of quantity of Elizabeth/Teyla fic in this fandom. This is one of my favorites. It's from 2005, but the polish has yet to wear off. Elizabeth, underneath it all, is daring, and Teyla is too, though that's not particularly underneath the surface for her. In the aftermath of negotiations for Ancient tech and Pegasus not-coffee whatevers, Teyla and Elizabeth share tea, stories of being female in their cultures (especially during their teenage years), and then they fall into bed together. This is adorable, and some of the mental images had me cackling with glee. It's just a delightful slice of life on Atlantis that's combined with slices of live on Athos and Earth.

Why This Must Be Read: I think one of my favorite things about SGA is how easily you can put any of the characters into an AU setting and it still totally works. Here, Medie writes an AU where Elizabeth is a Federal judge, Teyla is a US Marshal assigned to protect her, Ronon is Teyla's partner, John is a prosecuter, etc... It's a wonderful, intelligent read with the cast perfectly protrayed.

I don't often read femslash, but I highly recommend this fic to everyone simply because the story and characterization is stunning. Authors like Medie are a rare breed - quality work in a variety of fandoms and ships.

Why This Must Be Read:

It's fun to find a fic that manages to bring the funny, the serious, and hot sex scenes, and a plot all together. Elizabeth is the judge presiding over the case against Michael Kenmore who is part of the terrorist group The Wraith. Teyla is assigned to her on protection detail when it becomes more obvious that her life is very much in danger. Medie manages to build a world that you goet completey pulled into the surrounding plot that does end up bringing Teyla and Elizabeth together. And the entire time you get to enjoy that humour that we get to see from Elizabeth when she's allowed to relax a little come out beautifully as well. Finally? Her ending is. Some endings are just endings, her's is an ending that actually leaves an impression and isn't a slow wind down, and endings like that just leave you loving the story just that much more.

Why This Must Be Read: I love post-Return fics that deal with the return of the expedition to Atlantis. The ones that show them settling back in and becoming comfortable again with their place in the Pegasus galaxy give me a great deal of joy. This one shows the Lanteans and the Athosians coming together for a party, and Elizabeth and Teyla reconnecting in a way that we didn't get to see on the series.

Why This Must Be Read: Oh, my God, this is hot. Elizabeth orders sex toys, and she and Teyla experiment, and it's awkward in all the right ways, and hot, and the fact that there's a crisis going on around them involving giant birds just makes it surreal. Elizabeth and Teyla's emotions are perfectly in character, and they've got moments where they're happy. I think that last one is what seals this as a guaranteed story on my rec list.

Why This Must Be Read: Really, I'm not reccing this just because I did the beta. One of the things I love most about Havoc's AUs is that whatever she does with Elizabeth in the AU, it always seems to fit really well with canon Elizabeth Weir. In "Schism", which is a Babylon 5 crossover, Elizabeth's a member of the PsiCorps but she's not exactly loyal to them. There's a double conversation in here between Elizabeth and Teyla, spoken and psychic, that is fantastically done.

Why This Must Be Read: I always love examining the difference between Pegasus culture (especially the Athosians' culture) and Earth culture, and in this case, it's Teyla that's the fish out of water. She's on Earth, after the Siege arc, and staying in the same hotel as Elizabeth. It's a nice vignette, one that shows each woman's different vulnerabilities, and highlights the fact that they're on an equal plane.
