Why this must be read:

To end our bout of horror recs this month, I bring you a gentler take on the horror ideals. Instead of gruesome images and horrid fates, Sholio spins us a tale of gentle sorrow and ghostly shadows. Either way the reader takes, from Atlantis producing these shadows of her dead 'cause her people want to see them or her dead really coming home to rest, you will feel a twitch in the heart for the city's lost and those left behind. Still expect to feel the shivers, though, 'cause Sholio is as adept in writing chills as she is team-y goodness and action/adventure. From shadows out of the corner of the eye to silent stares to motionless gliding, this fic will leave you breathless and sad at the same time. A fitting end for horror recs, eh?

Why This Must Be Read: Folks, this is a double-hitter (Heh. Hitter.). Since Leverage just premiered I've been on a hunt for stuff to read (and re-read!) and I remembered this shiny gem. It's perfect because I have been nostalgic for some Awesome!Teyla. And boy does this fic deliver. We get Teyla and Eliot meeting and being BAMFs. Teyla kicking butt, taking names, and schooling some Taur'i. Eliot flirting badly, being impressed, and listening to his team's heckling over the comms. The author nails the Leverage team's banter. Honestly, even if you don't know Leverage I recommend, because you get to see Teyla through another character's POV, it's great fun, and it will tempt you into starting another show. The power of Teyla compels you.

Why this must be read: Ok, I am going to be clear here. I was the primary beta on this story. That just means I am really familiar with it and know how good it is!  Now that that’s out of the way...

I love fairy tales as much now as I did as a kid, especially the kind that take a well-known story and turn it on its head. CK has taken on Beauty and the Beast, moved it to the Middle East during the Gulf War, and made some really interesting and unexpected choices. And they work! The thematic elements of Beauty and the Beast are clearly present, without being trite, and the personalities of the characters we know from SG-1 are skillfully woven into the pattern, the details making the story come alive while avoiding words for words’ sake. You’ll find yourself lost in the story, wanting more. And with, perhaps, a strange craving for dates!

Why this must be read:It is a second part in a supernatural series that kathierif_fic has created. The first story is about John becoming a vampire and the second one is about Ronon becoming a werewolf. Even though it has supernatural tones to it, the story is very intriguing and keeps the characterizations correct and faithful. I love to read this story. You can totally see how John and Ronon grow closer together.

Why this must be read:The story starts with John Sheppard and group saving Ronon Dex from the Wraith and the implant. The author plays with the idea that "Specialist First Class" does not refer to military but to him as a scientist. Needless to say, some humor ensue as Ronon shows what he knows about Ancient technology and helping to repair Atlantis. While Ronon is doing this, John keeps falling deeper into love with Ronon.

   It is a great characterization of John and Ronon and how they fall for each other.

Why this must be read: I am a sucker for apocafic, darkness really floats my boat, and a twist from the expected makes a piece for me. This story has it all, in spades. It is written from Cam’s POV, and in the second person, no less. Cam sounds very good in the second person, his good old boy style shimmies nicely with it. Rigel also manages to work some tension into the tale as well - I found myself almost holding my breath at certain points.

Read and feed the author. Enjoy the payoff when it hits you at the end!
