Why This Must Be Read: A well thought out adventure where SG-1 (sans Daniel) is captured and in need of Champions. Though each is assigned their own personal advocate (Sam-Janet, Jack-Daniel and Teal'c-Brata'c) the story is focused on Janet's struggle to complete the necessary tasks to get Sam back. The author gives us insights into Janet by taking her out of her usual role within the SG program and explores the nature of the relationship that exists between the two women that has allowed Janet to hold title of Sam's Champion.

Why This Must Be Read: The question wasn't "if" I'd recommend a story by this author, more which story would I choose (and can I limit myself to one) as babs is one of my favourite fan fiction authors. In this well crafted tale, she shares the emotional journey of our intrepid heroes after Daniel receives a life altering injury. The struggle for both men to come to terms with the difficult decisions and sacrifices that have made is told in a very realistic light. No easy solutions.

Beyond that, though, her understated plot freakin' rocks.
John comes looking for Elizabeth long after their relationship has ended, and the emotions and darkness is palpable with every word. I love how she wrote their frayed relationship. The tension, the plot, the characterization, how they're stuck on opposing sides of a debate neither of them can win. Each little scene is great. I can't pick a favorite for the excerpt, but alas, I'll try.

Why This Must Be Read: In the wake of Lost City, a badly-shaken Daniel needs Teal’c to put things in perspective. Daniel is furiously frightened and guilty about Jack’s fate, but Teal’c is there to calm him and reassure him – and remind him that the others, too, were once faced with accepting Daniel in a state that was not quite death.
Written with warmth and understanding – and a showering Daniel, which many will automatically consider a plus – Splinters of Ice showcases Teal’c’s wonderful ability to offer support with a few well-spoken words and the sheer comfort of his indomitable presence.

This story is set in an apocalyptic 'verse where Elizabeth never joined the Atlantis expedition and instead continued her diplomatic career, and it starts off at IOA negotiations where Cameron is her military escort. The brief glimpses of political intricacies, the dark overtone of the apocalyptic setting, the pitch-perfect characterization all make this story a must-read.
Plus, Cameron/Weir is a ship most wouldn't have even thought about, but

Why This Must Be Read: A sweet, throughly enjoyable AU with Beckett as a doctor studying in somewhere in Canada and McKay as a chef. Seriously, who, more than McKay, has prima dona chef written all over him? Though some characters could tie, not many are more creditable in their attitude and the author captures it well. Carson is a customer of the restaurant that Rodney is employed who finds himself drawn to the irritating chef. The characters stay true to the canon personalities despite the change in venue.
