Why This Should Be Read:
Travelling One writes wonderful adventures of SG-1. "Enlightened" is no exception–featuring different moral codes with no clear right and wrong, cultural and...for that matter...species misunderstandings, and the determination and heart that makes the team so great.
Daniel is with the SG-1 this time as they once again encounter those "alien fireflies" from Prodigy. Not sure if these are the same light beings or different ones on this new world, the team are choiceless as they work together to figure a way out of their predicament. However, the alien fireflies are not the only sentient beings on this world, and as per usual, out of the frying pan means into the fire.
This story is great because it gives all the team members a chance to shine at what they do best...er, pun not intended. Jack is a cautious commander, fearful for his team and trying to do what he can himself. Daniel tries to communicate, even if it kills him. Sam uses her brain to try and figure out a way to escape, no matter the cost to herself. And Teal'c stoically guards them all, taking action when he can, frustrated when he is helpless.
There is a bit of whumping for each of the team members as they all try to save themselves, and most of all each other. There's also the classic team banter in the face of danger with Teal'c having the funniest line of the story. A wonderful blend of action, drama, and the close bonds of friendship that make our heroes so great. Add into the mix the fascinating alien dynamic, an intriguing plotline, and a dash of humor and you've got the recipe for a fantastic team story.
