Why This Must Be Read: Redbyrd is an absolute genius at filling in plotholes and inconsistencies in canon. In Time Out of Mind, Redbyrd tackles Daniel’s numb, abstracted behavior in Out of Mind and Into the Fire – and, while she’s at it, explains how Daniel can “remember” a scene in Hathor that he didn’t actually witness!

With her usual fantastic attention to details – for example, she has Daniel asking why Cassie, who they'd just seen in 1969, isn’t around in this strange future SGC – Redbyrd takes us through these two episodes from Daniel’s drugged and distressed point-of-view. If you’ve ever wondered why Daniel just stared while Jack got snaked, or why he turned back to the dead solider in the Tok’ra tunnels, or what caused him to be so hostile to Makepeace in Shades of Grey… well, Redbyrd clarifies all this and more, in her typically engrossing style. And with a satisfying final scene (what’s better than hot chocolate shared with friends?) in the bargain, Time Out of Mind is a long, entertaining fic that any Daniel fan can enjoy.

Why This Must Be Read: She likes the idea that maybe their weakness for each other is the charm that keeps this delicate blue sphere spinning calmly under the cold stars.

I fell in love this story when it was first posted for the sd_ficathon. Reading it again makes me love it even more.

Idle, bantering speculation as to just how Sam and Daniel would go about ruling the universe leads leads abruptly to the more serious topics of Ascended!Daniel’s failure on Abydos, and his murder by Replicarter, and how much of Sam’s own self was truly part of Fifth’s creation. Sam and Daniel quietly, thoughtfully talk their way through to acceptance of who they both truly are and how much they, and the team, mean to each other – and why that connection is what keeps them safe and grounded.

This beautiful fic is written with a deft touch that speaks straight to the heart of what makes Sam and Daniel’s friendship so wonderful, and you’ll remember it for a long time to come.

Why This Must Be Read: Not reccing this just because meeshy wrote this for me in the Samantha Carter Mini Ficathon over at sg_femslash. This fic is just amazing, both on the relationship, and plus her explanation for one mysterious aspect in The Road Not Taken, concerning that reality's Vala and her fate. I'm being a little vague just in case someone who has not seen Season 10 just yet is not spoiled. Still, if you haven't read it, it's certainly a wonderful story to look at.
