Why This Must Be Read: This is a portrait of tongue-tied Jack, who tries to comfort Daniel after Daniel's attacked on a mission, but is having a hard time finding the right thing to say. Somehow, through gesture, touch, persistence and something resembling the right words, he helps Daniel work through the latest nightmare, as well as past events.

Why This Must Be Read: After Daniel is raped on a mission, he works hard to recover, with the full support of Jack and the team. It's a very realistic look at the challenges Daniel faces, and overall a tremendously warm story with a lot of team love. Jack, especially, puts aside his selfish instincts and steps up to provide whatever it is Daniel needs to get better.

Why This Must Be Read: I haven't found a lot of AUs I really love in the SG-1 world. But there are two fairly new ones that are outstanding, one by an author new to me, and one by a favorite.

At first, this story doesn't seem so very different. Jack and Sam and Teal'c are a team, protecting Daniel and his work (whatever that is), and have formed a household around him. It's not until two-thirds of the way through that it's revealed you've really fallen down the rabbit hole. The tone has a warmth and sweetness, with just a tinge of sadness and hope. I've never read Sorrel before, but damn, I'll take more!

Jack is the leader who runs the team, and not a stargate in sight. They're a covert ops team, and Diana paints their portrait in a mosaic of backstories, with a terse, spy novel style. Compelling characters, and spot on depiction of the team we love in a new context.
