Why This Must Be Read: Need is one of my favorite episodes and I love fics that pick up where the episode left off and fill in some of what may have happened. This fic uses a fanon cliches (Jack springing Daniel from the infirmary) to good effect. Daniel is essentially Daniel in this fic, albeit a little rough around the edges and worse for wear. He's recovering and he's bit insecure, but he's not a baby or a quivering mass of jello in this fic. This story is told from Jack's POV, which allows the author to delve into the angst that both Daniel and Jack must have felt after the events that occurred in that episode. Sam and Teal'c show up to offer some reasonable support (nothing smarmy), and while all is not happy, you can see a little better how it's going to get better.

Why This Must Be Read: This is one of my favorite Daniel stories, though it includes almost equal measures of Sam and Jack. It takes place sometime during season 1, and BetaCandy has captured the characters perfectly for that time period. Daniel's earnestness, Sam's willingness to help, and Jack's personality are all spot on. I loved season 1 and this story brings back the feelings I had when I first watched the show.

Why This Must Be Read: The subtitle of this story says it all. It's a "Jack fix" story for season 9. This story so far includes missing scenes for the first five episodes of season 9. I loved the way that Dragonfly inserted Jack into scenes that we didn't see onscreen, but in a very natural way. I felt that these were mostly scenes which could have happened (or that I would like to have happened). The story is told mostly from Jack's point of view and includes some angst (but not too much), and the main characters are Daniel & Jack. So far the story focuses on their interaction the most, which is why I felt it qualified as a Jack & Daniel friendship story. I have been imagining similar scenes for myself because I can't bear to think that Jack is really gone so in my world, he's not. In Denial: 101, Jack is still around in the way that I want him to be.

Why This Must Be Read: This story is part of Scribe's Shower Series though written by Kaz (and appears both at Scribe's site and at Stargate Fan). This is an episode tag for The Curse. I think that Kaz captures the feeling from The Curse in such a way that I really feel this scene could have taken place after what we saw in the episode. It's one of my favorites from the shower series. Dr. Janet is there to care for Daniel and Sam offers some comfort.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a little ficlet that salieri posted as a journal entry and was recced to me by others on my flist. I fell in love with it. The author calls it a hickey fic, but it is so much more than that. It's just a Daniel moment that is told with a haunting beauty and the knowing sadness that things must change. (The fic starts about halfway through the journal entry.) This fic does not really contain any spoilers but takes place sometime pre-season 9.

Why This Must Be Read: Have you ever wondered how Daniel managed to recover so quickly during Absolute Power? This story is a missing scene that takes place from the time Daniel woke up in the infirmary to when he showed up in the room with Shifu just before Shifu ascended and left the SCG. I love how aurora novarum manages to get inside Daniel's head and show so clearly what he must have been feeling at that time. Daniel goes through the pain and guilt of what he thinks he's done as he realizes it was not real, but he also realizes that the lesson was learned. Having Janet in a story is always a plus, and her presence in this story is as Janet always was: calm and reassuring and essentially Janet.
