Why this must be read: Scroll down to read the fic amongst the other 'five things'. Awhile ago I was getting pretty bored with Sam/Jack fics, but when I read the second "regret", when she's eating in the commissary, it completely forced me back into that fandom. It's funny, sad, sexy, embarrassing... and all in five tries. The Sam/Daniel part really isn't my thing, and if the same goes for you... don't let it deter you. The theme of blue Jell-O is often overused in SG fanfics, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as proven by this author. Every story Jennghis Khan has written is amazing, but sometimes the short and simple pieces are the ones that stick with you.

There's an off-chance the third 'regret' might be considered non-consensual. I didn't think so at all but my friend was convinced otherwise- so I suppose it's up for interpretation. But the second one... wow.

It's a few years into a post-apocalypic Earth and what happened to get it that way is a facinating and satisifyingly gradual reveal. Wandering Blind has a snazzy action/adventure filling sandwiched between two deliciously sexy "it's complicated" relationship cookies.

This story is everything I wish I could write. It has it all: an incredible Jack voice; deep and believable characterisation; the perfect mix of angst and suspense and humour... Also? Zombies.

katie_m addresses her Three Body Problem in five vignettes, sketching out an incredibly rich portrait of each alternate universe. The very fact that she offers the reader glimpses rather than detailed stories is part of the charm of the piece as you begin to realize the limitless possibilities there are for writers to explore, simply by looking at what could be. My personal favorite is The Team Dynamic, if only because it rings so very true, and somehow reminds me that the base of a pyramid is still a square.

The author gives us front row seats to a play of emotions that bring to ~~bare~~ bear this new take on team bonding while still providing enough unstressing and undressing to satisfy everyone. In an intricately created post-apocalyptic world SG-1's survival skills shine and Michael is the most visible of a handful of original characters created for this tightly plotted story. The final reveal of Michael's origins makes the story that much more powerful. Read this for the complex world Salieri creates, for SG-1 bonding tightly to each other, for Jack's resistance, Daniel's attempts to preserve writing and the past, Sam's engineering and Teal'c's loyalty. And read it for Salieri's breath-taking use of language and for a wonderful look at how far SG-1 will go for those they care about and to save the world.

He thinks sometimes that it's a problem. He loves Sam; he's just not sure if he's in love with her, and he's pretty sure she feels the same way. He's also pretty sure she's in love with Jack, and he thinks he might be too. He wonders if this is a compromise that will ever work, but he also thinks it's working pretty well right now and maybe, just maybe, he'll let this thing between the three of them just happen for a while, just to see.

I love this story.

I was recently talking about it with the author of another story I've recently recced. Usually I can't *stand* stories that are "and then we had a baaaaybeeeee," as if it's a required part of hooking up and/or getting married or whatever.

Brighid made it work for me. I think part of it is the sex & the pregnancy and part of it is the naming of the baby. The one line about what they're naming the baby just, kind of, broke me.

I realize it's a little more het than slash, but the slash is definitely there. Most importantly is what a sweet family these guys make.

kres does a wonderful job showing how they negotiate their feelings, especially Jack for Sam and Daniel, and Sam for Jack and Pete. (Daniel actually has it easiest, I think, because for him, there really isn't any choice. He's fearless in going after what he wants.)

Note: This is not strictly a slash story -- there's definitely het and OT3 action going on -- but the main pairing is Jack/Daniel.
