Why This Must Be Read: A mysterious small boy appears in the gateroom and SG-1 finds themselves four days in the future, on a roadside in a Goa'uld-decimated Earth with the boy at their sides. Soon Teal'c is forced to offer his services to the local Goa'uld-approved warlord in exchange for tretonin while Jack, Sam and Daniel, along with the boy, pose as a family unit and try to survive. But it's SG-1, so they can't stop trying to overthrow the Goa'uld powers that have taken over Earth.

Meet Michael, a boy who only grows stranger as he ages and who SG-1 is devoted to protecting as one of their own. In an intricately created post-apocalyptic world SG-1's survival skills shine and Michael is the most visible of a handful of original characters created for this tightly plotted story. The final reveal of Michael's origins makes the story that much more powerful. Read this for the complex world Salieri creates, for SG-1 bonding tightly to each other, for Jack's resistance, Daniel's attempts to preserve writing and the past, Sam's engineering and Teal'c's loyalty. And read it for Salieri's breath-taking use of language and for a wonderful look at how far SG-1 will go for those they care about and to save the world.

Why this should be read: I love how the story seems very non-linear, but in a way, it really isn't. I love seeing the changes in Vala and how they're described. I could very clearly *see* her. Good dialogue.

Why this should be read: One of my favorite things about stories from an outside POV is seeing the characters in a new way and still being able to recognize them clearly. Seeing Rodney through Faith's is a very good example of this. Rodney is still very wonderfully his snarky self. And I dearly love the end.

Why This Must Be Read: This charming little fic presents us with an aspect of Teal’c’s life, post-symbiote, when he discovers his first cavity.

Minnow lightly touches on each part of the story, yet gives a clear impression of a greater, more detailed scene just beneath the surface. We traverse from Teal’c’s dental visit to the team’s reactions to his discussions with Bra’tac on the subject of health and medicine. There is the teamy goodness of Sam’s post-cavity filling offering, Jack’s e-mail of support, and Daniel’s inevitable diversion into etymology. But most of all, there’s the lovely insight into Teal’c’s character, as he takes his cavity in stride and recognizes it for what it truly is: another step on the journey towards shaping the Jaffa into something far greater than the Goa’uld could have ever envisioned.

Why this must be read: There are no words for how much I love this fic. I only just got around to reading it because my "to read" folder is stupidly large but oh my god, why didn't I read this sooner?! It's perfect. Syne captures early Sam and Cameron (back in season 1/2 if my memory of the Jonas Hansen episode serves me correctly) so perfectly. There's a whole backstory for Cameron that is just perfect - being stationed outside of the states and his history with Sam. It's also the little details that make this so believable and perfect "she's pulling the afghan around her a little more tightly and leaning on him, like he's her anchor" So many things are fantastic about this fic... You just have to read it to believe it!
