Why This Must Be Read: The Summary Says Two months after That Sunday, Rodney confronts his truth.

This fic was actually one of the very first SGA fanfics I ever read and its also one that has remained in my memory since then. I never liked that Carson was killed off but this is a Sunday Fixit story. Carson returns and has to confront the horrors of dying but Rodney is there beside him to help him and show him that he has reason to be here and how he copes with recovering from his ordeal. There is a great interaction between Carson and Rodney as they both remember and try to deal with the memories of the event that originally killed Carson.

Why this must be read: The story starts off with Ronon Dex learning about the ways of the Lanteans and how the American military views gay relationships. He soon tells Rodney Mckay and Carson Beckett that he wants to be their "Brother", which has an interesting meaning to Ronon and to the others.

The story has great characterization and an interesting plot. You can definitely see the relationship build between the three of them.

Why this must be read:I greatly enjoyed the series, even though there is a lot of hurt/comfort and angst. The story starts with John and Rodney being prisoners of Kolya. The story progressed very well and you could see how the various relationships progressed and how out of something evil, came something good.

Why This Must Be Read: I can't think of a reason why this shouldn't be read, especially for anyone who is interested in this threesome and/or interested in Carson/Rodney. This is the fic that made me love McBeck, that made me love M/S/B and that made me love these authors. It is an EPIC read so perfect if you need something to keep you company over the holiday season. Though this fic has many excellent features, detailed flashbacks (see warnings re. violence/torture), drama, h/c, and more, what really gets me about this one is the characterization of Carson, Rodney and, later, John. They are written well IC and you can't help but love them, separately and together, feeling every moment right along with them.

Why This Must Be Read:

This was recced in 2006 for the McKay/Beckett rec category, but that's a long time ago and I think this story deserves some fresh scrutiny. Essentially a PWP, there's so much unexpected emotion packed into it that I really hesitate to characterize it that way. One of the reasons this resonated so much with me was the undercurrent of loneliness and self-denial in the story that we sense from Rodney. Here is a man who as we know is very passionate and strong-willed, yet he's alone, and he lacks the patience and social skills to really do anything about it. It's just a glimpse into a moment of his life, but the story stayed with me just as the event stays with Rodney. The last line is particularly poignant. A brief line that explains the gist of the story:

So they reach an understanding. And it's not complicated and it's not going to end ugly because this? This is perfectly simple. Just a dim room, a bed, and two friends. Nothing more. It really is a brilliant idea.

Why This Must Be Read: I can't do a month of McKay/Beckett without reccing Mice. I consider him the crème de la crème of the pairing (and I know I am not alone). I also consider this story possibly one of his finest works. The emotional roller coaster ride he takes the reader on after Carson gets sick upon returning from an off-world adventure is simply riveting. He has the dynamics of the relationship between McKay and Beckett down pat and does a wonderful job of drawing remaining cast as well.

Why This Must Be Read: A sweet, throughly enjoyable AU with Beckett as a doctor studying in somewhere in Canada and McKay as a chef. Seriously, who, more than McKay, has prima dona chef written all over him? Though some characters could tie, not many are more creditable in their attitude and the author captures it well. Carson is a customer of the restaurant that Rodney is employed who finds himself drawn to the irritating chef. The characters stay true to the canon personalities despite the change in venue.

Why This Must Be Read: Something to know about me, I can't handle blood. Yet I am reccing a story where a blood ritual is the root of all that unfolds in the prose. This is because the author hints and alludes to the horror rather than painting graphic picture and doesn't let the reader in the nature of the horror very end, and even then in passing not in detail. Letting the reader know only what needs to be known to understand why Rodney an Carson are where they are at the point of time in the story. We are guided through the eyes of Carson, watching the man he loves suffering, with only glimpses of Rodney's pain directly. Don't let the warnings scare you away.

Why This Must Be Read: wliberation doesn’t write much, which is a crying shame. This is an achy and languid look at a dim room, a bed, and two friends. Author categorises this as PWP and in a way it is - there really isn't much of a plot as such. However, what you have to understand about this fic, is that the sex, while incredibly erotic, isn't really the point at all. This is about need and loneliness and inability to control one's mind even if the body can be denied. Highly recommended.

Why This Must Be Read: First of all I would urge everyone to take the author’s warnings seriously. This is not a happy fic. It is, however, an incredibly well-written and powerful portrayal of Carson that seems all too plausible. This man is not the one we see in the show, but it could easily be the one just out of sight, hiding behind the charming smiles and twinkling eyes. The fic is like an antithesis of everything that appeals to me in McKay/Beckett pairing, which may not sound like a recommendation, but it totally is. Because lillyjk makes me believe it. The fact that she does it while reducing me into a puddle of quivering goo, helps a lot. There is a sequel Damage, which is equally disturbing and hot, but ends in a slightly more hopeful note.

Why This Must Be Read: E. Batagur is a talented writer with several McKay/Beckett stories (some of which are still in WIP status, otherwise I would have recced more) and I urge you to check out all of them. Deeper Understanding is an amnesia fic, where Rodney wakes up after an accident with memories of two different lovers and a jumble of confusing emotions. The writing is smooth and the ending gives me the warm fuzzies like nothing else. E. Batagur also has a knack for textual sensuality (that’s a term, right?) and the sex scenes manage to be both tasteful and incredibly hot.

Why This Must Be Read: Probably a good twenty percent of all McKay/Beckett fics are written by Mice, who is both talented and prolific – qualities one appreciated in any fanfic author. The problem here is choosing one fic over the others for reccing. Submerged is a cliché done well. Rodney and Carson go exploring the city and get stuck in a room with the temperature dropping. To ward off hypothermia they’re forced to share body heat and, well, one thing leads to another, as they say. The sex is scorching hot without overlooking the emotional side of things. Mice categorises this as PWP but, at least for me, it’s much more than that.
