Why This Must Be Read: So what's the going rate for a colonel and an archeologist? Sam and Teal'c are about to find out!

Very short, very fun, slightly innuendo-ish (for Kalquessa, certainly). Sam and Teal'c as the slightly amused adults are always a win. :)

"So what's the plan for getting us out of these?" Daniel pulled the chain between his wrists taut.

"Well it's a bit crowded for a fire-fight, so we're going to buy you from that nice man in the leather shirt over there," Sam hefted the bag of coins she had been carrying, which clinked satisfyingly.

Why This Must Be Read: Several years ago, Stringertheory wrote Dal Niente, a beautiful Unending fic in which Sam teaches Teal'c how to play the cello. In this lovely sequel, an older and somewhat lonelier Teal'c returns the favor.

I proudly confess that I asked for this sequel, and Stringertheory sketches out their friendship with intelligence and deep undercurrents. A loving, lush read, and a tribute to both Teal'c and Sam.

Great Teal'c POV, wonderful friendship piece, and delightful characterization make this a story you're sure to enjoy.

Why This Must Be Read: I love first-step stories, and Aurora gives us a delightful one here!

It's very early S1, and Sam and Teal'c get their first real chance to bond. There's interaction on the firing range, motorcycles, and a trip to O'Malley's for steak and pool. But even more than that, we also get marvelous insight into culture clash and confusion: Teal'c's ingrained alarm at Sam's inspection of his staff weapon, a discussion on first and last names, Teal'c's delight at the plethora of desserts available, his unexpected talent for SGC gossip. This is a journey of discovery for Sam, for Teal'c, and for the enthralled reader, who will enjoy every step of the way!

Why This Must Be Read: This lovely fic is set in early S9, just before Sam goes to Area 51. Sam is feeling adrift and lost; her team is scattering to different planets (and galaxies), and she feels that all she has to show for it are a few boxes and some painful memories.

Then Teal'c shows up, and their conversation is unexpectedly interrupted...

As Canon Sees It is a satisfying tribute to years of tears and triumph, the friendship between Sam and Teal'c, and knowing that things do matter. (It also shows that it always pays to have a camera in your pocket.) Thor, in all his non-cuddly huggability, is only the icing on the cake. :)

Link: The Weight of Non-Existent Years

Why This Must Be Read: I have mentioned once or twice (or dozens of times, heh) that I really hated Unending. Yet I have found a few fics that I have loved about that episode, and invariably, they involve the friendship between Sam and Teal'c. Like this one, only ow.

The Weight of Non-Existent Years gives us Teal'c and Sam friendship in the aftermath, before Sam departs for her new posting. Related with elegant prose from Teal'c's POV, we see him struggling to reconcile the woman he knew for fifty years on the Odyssey - the woman who, he realizes, "knew him better than anyone in his whole life. Better than Bra’tac. Certainly better than Shaun’auc, Drey’auc, or Ishta" - with the younger, stronger, lighter woman who stands before him now.

You will ache for Teal'c, and wince for Sam, too, who has lost the marvelous rapport that she developed with her friend over five absent decades. This fic is a beautifully crafted elegy and tribute to the friendship that is, and the friendship that was.

Too good and too short to excerpt. Go and read!

Why This Must Be Read: In this corner, Teal'c: a man who turned his back on a lifetime, and has to struggle to reconcile the cultural mores of decades with the contradictions of the expectations of the Tau'ri. And in this corner, Sam: early S1 Sam with that chip on her shoulder, offering respect without question and disappointed in what she perceives as a lack in return.

Fantastic insight into the backstory that affects Teal'c's perception of women, with superb Teal'c POV throughout the fic. We get honest conversation, with unexpected gifts offered and accepted, and very much in character for them both. Equality is a great look at how the friendship of Sam and Teal'c began way back at the very beginning.

Author's summary: And here they stood, in the ruins of the world they’d fought ten long years to protect, the war lost before they even knew it had begun.

Why This Must Be Read:
One of the most magnificent epic saga I have read ever. Ever. The first story starts off at the end of the end, literally. Earth's first and last line of defense battles a foe that appeared out of nowhere. It captures how far everyone is willing to save the ones they about and Earth. A promise made by Teal'c to General O'Neill, and his unwavering devotion to Carter, is the core of the fic. The apocalypse drives Carter and Teal'c to areas of their relationship and themselves that transcends time and space.

We follow Carter and Teal'c journey though everything the universe throws at them.

All of them are wonderfully paced and full of unexpectant twist that makes you wish it will never end. Carter's response to the lost of SG-1 and Earth is beautifully written capturing both the reality and the tragedy of it all. The journey never end for her. And the saga only continues and only gets better, much better. SG-1/SGA in the first fic, I think even reading that part is worth it by itself. Truly spectacular.

Why This Must Be Read: This is another enchanting take on those nebulous days after Changeling, when Teal’c had to struggle with his newfound need for sleep after nearly a century of kel’no’reem. In Bad Dreams, Sam offers comfort - not only with a bedtime story, but with the support of her own presence.

There is the intriguing question of whether he has truly awakened; Teal’c and Sam have a fascinating discussion on the subject of reality and the realm of the imagination, and Teal’c tries to comprehend Daniel’s nebulous presence in both his dreams and his waking periods. But the common thread that weaves this story together is friendship - willingly offered, and gratefully taken, and a beautifully-rendered read.

Why This Must Be Read: This lovely fic, which is a remix of Minxy's excellent Perchance to Dream, is a thoughtful look at Sam's relationship with Teal'c during Season 6.

Katie gives us a marvelous peek into Sam's head, as she first considers Daniel's bizarre closeness with Teal'c, then turns to Teal'c herself in her grief when Daniel is gone. When Teal'c himself is in need of advice, Sam tentatively offers her assistance - and is delighted when Teal'c actually accepts it.

Sam's strength of character is deeply moving, as we see her cherish a closeness and then step away to give it back to those that she believes need it more. The Teal'c we see through her eyes is truly wonderful, but the Sam who shines through her own thoughts is equally special. This is a quiet, gentle character sketch that will make you love Sam and Teal'c more than ever.

Why This Must Be Read: In this delightful (and sticky!) story, Teal'c comforts Sam in the aftermath of her abduction by Fifth in New Order.  The fic starts out softly and sweetly, as Teal'c treats Sam to a good dinner and doesn't even look at the Star Wars section when they go to rent a video. But after a stray remark regarding some throwaway dialogue in Ascension, well...

Companionship and laughter and silliness as an antidote to the trauma of Replicator blocks. Feeling Blue is an entertaining tribute to Sam, and Teal'c, and the power of friends... and blue Jell-O!

Why This Must Be Read: I should clarify that I absolutely hated Unending.

And yet, I rec this fic. That should tell you something. :)

One of the saving graces of Unending was the lovely friendship between Sam and Teal'c. In this charming vignette, Teal'c presents Sam with a keepsake - a memory that only he still possesses, but that embodies a woman he admires and cherishes.

With lovely metaphor and a tribute to Teal'c's grace and calm, Da Capo is a marvelous tag to what I personally consider to be a horrible episode. If you enjoyed Unending, you will simply find this utterly delightful; but if, like me, you hated it, I urge you to try this story anyway. You'll be glad that you did.

Why This Must Be Read: In this charming story, Teal’c pays Sam a surprise visit while she’s working in Area 51 in S9, before either of them return to SG-1. For Sam, there’s the sheer relief of talking to someone who sees her as herself, not the celebrity that once blew up a sun; for Teal’c, there’s the pleasure of spending time with a good friend instead of dwelling on the uncomfortable feeling that his fellow Jaffa perceive him as a redeemer. As an extra bonus, Teal’c offers us a lovely in-canon explanation for why there’s no Sam interaction in those early episodes. Most of all, though, Geonn offers us the opportunity to spend some time with two wonderful people who are utterly at ease with themselves and each other.

Read this one for the warm fuzzies and great characterization. You’ll find yourself smiling when you’re done.

While I found Teal’c a little too innocent of the world’s foibles for a story set in the latter half of S2, I was also completely charmed by the respect and trust that Sam and Teal’c show for each other. This story was apparently written as a prequel to another, but it stands proudly on its own as a wonderful tribute to the friendship between Sam and Teal’c.

Why This Must Be Read:
This is a thrilling Moebius fic that deals with the original SG1 stuck in ancient Egypt. When the rebellion doesn't go as planned, Sam and Teal'c are sent to perform as fighters for Ra instead of being executed. It's a treat to find such a well written Sam/Teal'c friendship fic. It features major character death, and it's sad, but it's worth it in this story. There's a good cast of original characters, and the action scenes are wonderful. It shows off Sam as a soldier and a thinker who must help Teal'c plot their escape from Ra's palace.
