Why This Must Be Read: This is a clever, funny take on Atlantis having an AI, which is finally awakened when Rodney reactivates a dormant city administration program. It's first person snarky from Atlantis's POV and while reading it I kept thinking it had a Murderbot feel, so I was pleased to find that was intentional, although more ART than Murderbot. It's a great yarn about the city awakening, being disconcerted by the damage and mold everywhere, immediately taking charge surreptitiously and getting repair systems back online, and being intrigued by its new residents, especially a certain dashing pilot. Then it starts interacting, with predictable and amusing results, including flirting with the Daedalus (Hermiod is not amused). It's the ultimate fix-it fic in many ways, and an excellent read!

Why This Must Be Read: a couple of weeks ago Domarzione posted to AO3 a number of fics from LJ that hadn't made it to AO3 previously, plus a few with additional sections added. There's some great reading there! I'm doing AUs this month and this one fit that category.
Sumnerverse is an interesting series of vignettes in which Sumner isn't killed in the Pilot and continues as Sheppard's CO. They're short stories and act as tastes of alternate ways it could have gone. Sheppard is of necessity far more aligned with Sumner, being his XO. Due to the changes and the different decisions Sumner makes, some things from canon go better, whereas other outcomes are less positive. Intriguing!

This is once again an amazing fic by Wonkyelk that gives you a perfect, insightful characterization of John in wonderful words and imagery. It makes John’s journey to what and how he is so incredibly tangible and relatable, showing us his turmoil and self-doubt to the point of self-abandonment and the belief that he doesn’t deserve happiness and love. It’s so beautifully written—how John lets Rodney into his life and allows Rodney to lead him out of the emotional prison he has put himself in—step by step through companionship and friendship to true love.
This story cuts to the heart, sometimes shattering it, but offers absolution, understanding, healing, and, ultimately, love for both John and Rodney.

Why This Must Be Read: The story vividly and believably captures the all-too-easy-to-imagine backbiting and horrible gossip, Rodney's self-loathing, and Elizabeth and John's corresponding anger. Rodney endured so much torture and received so little recognition—not to mention such a lack of care.
This sensitively written fic offers you deep insight, touches your heart, and leaves you with a satisfying fix-it.

Why This Must Be Read: Okay, this is a tough one (the author rates it as D for dark, V for very), but the writing is so damn good. Ronon and Rodney have been captured on a mission and are imprisoned in a primitive cell. One after the other they're taken away and tortured, and the story is about how they get through that, and how they eventually start to heal, in the aftermath. It's told from Ronon's POV - he's had training in resisting torture, and he does what he can to help Rodney, both during their capture, and afterwards. It's gruelling but very compelling, and definitely worth reading. The ending is hopeful, and equally powerful.

His team worries while Rodney's consciousness wanders around Atlantis, running into the ghosts of those who have died. This is sort of a crossover or homage to the TV shows “Ghosts-UK” and "Ghosts CBS". There are ghosts in Atlantis that use the same ghost rules as the TV shows. Rodney learns that people care about him, not just his massive intelligence

Why this must be read: This is a newer fic by NotTasha which is such a gem because she's only recently returned to sga. (She has been writing since back when the show first aired. One of her most famous pieces is Warm Safe and Dry and it is sooooo good.) She gets McKay so well and she always digs into his guilt and inner strength in ways that just floor me. I love everything about this story. The fic takes place somewhere in season two, I'm guessing, and McKay is having an out of body experience in which he meets the ghosts haunting Atlantis. McKay's journey into the land of the ghosts is emotionally powerful and made my heart hurt for how little he understands he is loved beyond just his brain. NotTasha does this amazing thing where she can describe Ronon and Sheppard's concern for him and the reader gets it but Rodney, as the narrator, doesn't recognize this at all.

This fic is a fusion with the show Ghosts. You don't need to know anything from that show and there are no characters from it. NotTasha just plays with ideas from the show to develop her own version of ghosts in Atlantis.

Note: The first chapter at first may not seem to be kind in how it portrays McKay, but this is actually one of its greatest strengths! Why? Because we learn that how McKay sees the actions in chapter one is not at all how they really were or how others saw them. In reality, she has a wonderful, compassionate and kind take on Rodney. It's really lovely to see this written where the ghosts show him that he's so much more than he thinks of himself.

Why This Must Be Read: I’m excited to share this not only because I worked really hard on it but also because I think it’s got a lot of elements that people would like. It’s Sam/Jack getting together post-Threads, which I don’t think any of us can get enough of, but my original inspiration for writing this was a headcanon I came up with based on how Jack is always saying things that make Sam smile: basically the idea is that Jack starts keeping a log of all the things he says or does that make Sam smile or laugh so that he can keep track of what works and what doesn’t so he can make her laugh and smile more. Anyway I just knew I had to write a fic around it, it’s just the kind of thing he’d do and it made me smile so much just thinking about it. Also there’s some Carter family angst courtesy of Mark, who tbh I think is criminally underutilized. The main part is mostly from Sam’s POV, but the prologue and epilogue are from Jack’s POV. Anyway, there’s fluff and angst aplenty, and a happy ending, so please enjoy :)

Why This Must Be Read: This is set in Mensaverse, not long after Ronon arrives in Atlantis. He's still a bit paranoid, very smart and observant but half feral, and Rod McKay, who has way better social skills than canon Rodney, is trying to befriend him. It's beautifully written and an amazing character study of both Ronon and Rod, with nice takes on John and Jeannie as well. Ronon is healing from a leg injury acquired on a mission, and Rod persuades him to tag along on a trip back to Earth to visit Jeannie and her family. In this Rod is gay, and in the end he and Ronon become, tentatively, closer, with Jeannie cheerleading in the background. It's an excellent window into all their characters - Rod's different from canon Rodney, and in this he makes a lot of sense. A great read, as are all of Hth's stories.

Struggling with his inner demons and attempting to do what he thinks is right, he learns the value of friendship and dedication through his team's unyielding support.
This fic is an absolute gem—insightful and heart-wrenching. There's also a wonderful podfic read by Tazmy herself. So go, read, and listen, you will love it.
