Why this must be read: You know the kind of fic that comes with the warning 'not a happy story' so you're almost afraid to click on the cut, and you click anyway and find it's true, and you don't even care because it's so beautiful? Yeah. This story is like that.
Summary: The flames are beautiful. It's almost worth it, seeing this. (1,500 words)

Summary: A little Ronon & Rodney wrap-up for the events on the hiveship, post-"Enemy At The Gate".

Why This Must Be Read: What I really appreciated about this fic is that Rodney and Ronon are clearly not "pals" or buddies. They might consider each other friends and there's certainly a loyalty that comes from being teammates, but it's not what Ronon has with John or what Rodney has with Zelenka--they just don't have that kind of relationship. I found it so refreshing to have that lack of closeness openly acknowledged, and for Rodney and Ronon to find some closure after the whole Keller triangle.

There are other things to love about this fic too, but I'll leave that for you to discover when you read it :)

Hi, I'm reccing Ronon for October.

Summary: The night before Jennifer's supposed to marry Rodney, Ronon comes to her hotel room.

Why This Must Be Read: I'll admit to a slight bias since [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo wrote this using my prompt, "Ronon/Keller, last chance to be wild." For readers with an instinctive dislike of partner betrayal, let me assure you that this is not a fic about cheating. It's much more about... hmm. Emotional overcommitment. It's about the complicated web of relationships between Ronon and Jennifer and Rodney and everyone else living in Atlantis. I might even use the word "incestuous" to describe them, because they are, in a way, family, but without the clearly defined roles of traditional families (like husband and wife).

It's an angsty, sensuous little fic that gives you a snapshot of how the Atlantis team has grown and changed in the year since "Enemy At The Gate", and the glimpse I got was fascinating.

Why This Must Be Read:

A struggling Rodney, a reasonable Keller, and a resistant John make for a great story of one couple falling apart, another finally falling together in fits and starts. Add in an amazing discovery that needs to be protected from those who would exploit it and John's reluctance to commit and it's even better.

By a lucky coincidence, the author posted a short sequel the same day I was writing this recommendation, so there's even more to love.

This isn't a pairing combination I had ever considered before but I thought the author really pulls it off; I completely bought it. I love the slowly growing friendship between Jennifer and Radek and the fondness underneath Rodney's and Radek's bickering.

Why This Must Be Read: Accompanied by Keller, Rodney races to save his team in the midst of a world-class hurricane and a rebel insurrection. This is a thrilling against-the-odds story with a determined, scared and brave Rodney and exciting descriptions of the storm of the century, with mudslides, lightning, falling trees and general proof that nature itself can be every bit as scary as Wraith.

This story takes place early in Rodney and Jennifer's acquaintance (season four-era, before "Trio"), and it's Jennifer's first exposure to Rodney in the field. Through her eyes, we get an outsider POV on Rodney and his relationship with his team, as well as a sympathetic window on her own struggle to survive in a situation that is very alien to her.

Why This Must Be Read:

I very recently read this fic and totally spazzed over it. The thing is, it has 1 billion comments so it would be like reccing Lord of The Rings to a fantasy fiction fan; chances are, people have read it. I'm going to do it anyway.

This fic is pure gold. I know a lot of people see the warning genderswap and you sort of think you know what the story is going to be about. But this is not really all about genderchange. The genderswapping is like a side-plot. The main plot is all about John as he realizes some things about himself (and Rodney), in a rather funny way. The story puts the genderswapping through some different paces too which I really like.

This is a well-written story. It's funny, it's well-paced, it's different, the look into John's head is interesting, the characterization of Rodney is awesome, the portrayal of Ronon is funny (to me, anyway), Teyla is spot-on and hey, interesting original side characters! I recommend it happily.

The excerpt the author used as a summary:  If Rodney had been a girl it might've been different, because Rodney was the one John spent time with and had fights with and made up with, and you couldn't have a friendship like that with someone of the opposite sex without at least contemplating something more.

A fun, suspenseful action-adventure story, in which Rodney and Jennifer get thrown into a combat situation and have to team up and save the day. This reads just like an episode, thanks to the vivid descriptions, the exciting action scenes and the great characterization. I love the Keller POV, and the nice, tingly UST between our two reluctant heroes.

One day left, so I'm quickly re-reccing two longer stories in the character category, since they are Jennifer-centric and the pairing is very much in the background (and I failed to categorize them correctly when I first rec'd them...)

A descriptive and action-filled adventure story with a fantastic Keller POV that does the character justice. She gets a chance to shine in this one, with nature throwing obstacle after obstacle at them, and Sheppard's team lying injured (really well-written h/c, too). It's much fun to see Rodney and Jennifer play off each other. This fic put me in a happy mood and left me with a yen for more Keller-centric fic.

This is a missing scene fic from The Last Man that is true to character for both, shows their relationship grow in a very believable manner, and fits seamlessly into the episode. It was just what I was looking for after watching that ep.

Why This Must Be Read: I won't spoil the plot by saying more than it's time for the team to go on one of those usually doomed and nearly deadly missions try out another cursedly vague entry in the Ancient database about a possible ZPM. This story is just marvelous and utterly fitting for the Secret Santa recipient it was written for, the acclaimed Tielan. Teyla's POV is perfectly in character in The Truth About Alliances and her wry wisdom rings true.

If you were too slammed during the holidays to read much, I can't urge you enough to check out this can't-miss story, one of the many such fantastic works to come out of the SGA_Santa community (http://community.livejournal.com/sga_santa/) this year. The team interactions and characterizations are subtle and achingly right. The author must be saluted for imagining and executing such a lovely and completely original concept that takes an interesting and thought-provoking sociological look at Pegasus.

My only complaint is I want more. Sequel please?
