Why This Must Be Read: The first time I read this, I had never seen Torchwood, or Doctor Who for that matter, so I had no idea who Jack Harkness was. I immediately loved Jack and I believe minervacat portrayed him superbly. It didn't bother me that I had never seen Torchwood. I followed the events quite well and I loved the fic.
I read this fic again after I had seen Torchwood (awesome show by the way) and it was even better. I absolutely loved the Vala/Jack pairing because it's so makes sense! This is a great way to see Vala interact with someone other than Daniel or any other member of SG-1.
To conclude, this fic can be appreciated even if the reader has never seen Torchwood before. So please, enjoy!
She wasn't the prettiest girl in the bar, but she was the most interesting -- dark hair, great breasts, nice legs; leather coat thrown over the chair next to her, alien-looking sidearm strapped to her thigh -- and when he slid onto the stool beside her (the one that her coat, with the gleam of a knife in the inside pocket, wasn't on), she looked him up and down and smiled. "What's a girl got to do to get a drink bought for her around here?" she said.
"Ask," Jack said.
"Buy me a drink," she said.
"No problem," Jack said.
