Why This Must Be Read:
It's always lovely to come across a fic that expands on the canon of the show, where the author picks up on something left unsaid or implied and creates something to fill the gap.
Bra'tac is something of an enigma on the show, we know so little of his past and only small glimpses into how he guided Teal'c to the position of First Prime of Apophis, while sowing the seeds of rebellion.
_minxy_ captures the tone and rhythym of the Jaffa way of speaking, and in a beautifully restrained fic, shows us Bra'tac as he first meets the young Teal'c. The imagery is beautiful and the whole exchange feels very real.

A Teeny Extract
The evening was warm. A bonfire in the center of the clearing hadburned down, but was maintained for the light it cast. Children playednearby, in a game of movements looping in and around each other. Their guardians made the next circle of people, expressions harder to gauge, intentions concealed in the places hollowed out by the absence of light.
Bra’tac walked into his shadow. The heat on his back had faded into the warmth of the evening long before the edges of his shadow blurred into the night.
The woman Bra’tac was looking for would not be among the revelers.
