Why This Must Be Read: It's hard being the expedition's psychologist. How many people resent you for seeing their fears and weaknesses? Cutting right through the protective layers of denial and rationalization that shield us from our own feelings of inadequacy tends to alienate you. Then again, it's a necessary function.
