Why This Must Be Read: As the categories list indicates, this short fic covers all the bases of Daniel/Sha're possible interactions, from post-movie to pre-series to COTG to AU. Great Daniel POV, poignancy and fluff and angst, and a short, satisfying read.
He guided Sha’re through the process of finding her first artifact. She marked the location carefully on the grid, labeled it, and packed it away, repeating the process several more times until they had several pieces.
“Now, the fun,” he told her after they had returned home. And, piece by piece, he asked Sha’re questions. She identified a side of an oil lamp that was likely used in a ceremony still practiced today, a partial carving she thought was decorative, and the lip of a painted bowl that Sha’re said could either be from an offering or from someone’s lunch.
“And that’s what I do,” he said. “I dig up the past, try to make educated guesses about what the items were used for, and then, for just a brief moment, it is like the people who used those items are alive again.
“You talk to the ancestors?” Sha’re asked in awe.
“No, they talk to me.”
