Why This Must Be Read: Here's one I think most people will have forgotten, if they ever discovered it. Two ficlets about John who's left the Air Force after the black mark disaster - but he also has an injury causing double vision, and starts to write poetry. I know - very much an AU! Butsomeinstant is such a great writer, I can believe it. From the author's notes, as the fics are too short for an excerpt:
"So I'd been thinking (as one does), about how I have a Thing for men in wire-rimmed glasses, and then I thought, God, John Sheppard would be totally hot in glasses, which I think we all can agree is a Great Truth. But self, I thought, if Sheppard had glasses, then the Air Force wouldn't let him fly! And that would be tragic and sad! (Which is, I think, another Great Truth.) In fact, I continued thinking, it would be so very tragic and sad, I bet Sheppard would start writing angsty poetry about it.
And that seems like it might also be a Great Truth. But then I stopped being sarcastic somewhere along the road, and this is what happened.
