Why This Must Be Read: Author's summary: Daniel recalls a glimpse of life as an ascended being.

Imo, this is a wonderful piece of writing: stirring, beautiful, and powerfully evocative, and all that within just 1,000 words. While summoning imagery strong enough to take the reader to another place, a deftly inserted guest appearance by Oma preserves our direct connection with Daniel - at the core of all that beautiful imagery is, recogniseably, Daniel himself, so that when the imagery fades our connection with the rest of the story remains strong. And it's insightful, as well, with the very last line of the story bringing Daniel's post-ascension reality into sharp, bittersweet focus.

Daniel didn't realize how much he pined for Jack until clone!Jack admitted his crush on Daniel. Then it was all Daniel could think about, to the detriment of his work, and by risking his life.

It takes Jack too long to realize that maybe Daniel (and clone!Jack) was right and that they could have a relationship.
