You can run to the ends of the Earth, but you can't escape from yourself. An illegal immigrant, an emotionally and physically damaged veteran, and a border patrol agent who hates his job ... maybe they were destined to be friends in any universe.

Why This Must Be Read: this story was posted under the AU category in 2006, but it is such a gorgeous friendship fic, I'm sure no one minds if it is recced again under Friendship.

This is an AU. If AU is not your thing, read on anyway because you wouldn’t want to miss this. The story is set in Texas, near the Mexican border and John, Rodney and Teyla fall seamlessly into a background of illegal immigration, border patrols and local bad guys against the backdrop of the dusty Texas desert. The interactions, the team dynamics, it's all there and it never gets out of character. And the story itself is gripping. A must read.

Why This Must Be Read: an adorable and funny story that makes me sigh happily every time I read it. I love John and Rodney both in this; they are so at ease and comfortable with each other.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a lovely, rich story set during the time Sam is stuck in "The Road Not Taken". Stranded far from home, and surrounded by people she doesn't know whether or not to trust, Sam is able to grab a brief refuge with the one person as becky puts in the fic "she can still help."

Becky marries the bleak view of the "Road Not Taken" world with a lightness of finding comfort in the every day moments. Her characterization of Sam in this bizarre setting is very natural. And the interaction between Sam and a Cameron embittered by his situation are mixed with highs of light banter to the strong undercurrent that forges a connection between them, no matter what universe they're from.

Plus, there's macaroons.
