Why this must be read: The Mezzanine 'verse is a creation of synecdochic and ivorygates, who, contrary to their protestations, should seriously be locked in a room with computers and internet access and as much chocolate as they wish, because when they get an idea, brilliant stories come out of it. The Mezzanine universe is about mini!Jack and a gender bendered Cam (Cammie) Mitchell who was not miraculously healed in her "X-302 Meets Ice Cap" accident, which I tell you only because you will want to read the other stories. But this is a story about Daniel.

When it all became too much for Daniel, he escaped to Atlantis, leaving behind the SGC, Jack, and all of his other problems unresolved. Now Jack is dead. Yes, that is the character death, and I am giving nothing away as it is the premise for Daniel's return to Earth. Imagine, if you will, a man who has spent the last ten years surrounded by no more than a thousand people at any one time; someone who left because the pressure was more than he could bear without cracking into a million tiny shards of himself. This is the Daniel Jackson who has returned to Earth to say goodbye to his friend, to make good on a promise, even if it is too late. It is a remarkable story of the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on the human psyche. And, altho it is billed as an AU, this is a characterization of Daniel that I can actually picture at some point in the not-so-distant future. Read and feed the authors!!

Why This Must Be Read:

This is a well-written, cute little missing scene for Bounty (10.15) wherein Vala and Daniel get in a quick conversation between Odai Ventrell's defeat by SG-1 and the clean up that must be done. As with the show, it's more the moments between these two that say so much about their real relationship than any words spoken out loud, and Lisa has captured this perfectly.

Why This Must Be Read: Recently written for the sg_rarepairings Fic Battle, Havoc gives us a glimpse beneath the surface of Vala's feelings after Flesh and Blood and just how she takes the results of her pregnancy. The ship aspect of the ficlet is subtle, as it plays up the transition of Season Nine with their almost-constant bickering and Season Ten where a slow change began to occur between them. However, Vala's view on what she was denied as a mother is fascinating, as is Havoc's connecting that loss to the one Daniel himself suffered several years before.
