Why this must be read:
"You want me to what?" Rodney whipped around to face John, eyes wide. His abject horror at John's suggestion clearly visible on his face.

Now, this might be cheating because this story was written for me and set in an AU I created. Wait, don't stop reading! This story was not just an amazing birthday present. It is also a great story and I would've recced it even if it hadn't been Cep playing in my Entangled Particles-verse.

To make a long story short - Rodney is a writer and John has been medically discharged from the Air Force and works at a youth centre. In Subtle Realignment, John wants Rodney to come to Career Day at the youth centre. And talk to kids. About his career. Yep, that's right. Rodney and kids. You know you'll love it!

But there's more than that. This story has lots of humour, a perfect touch of angst and admirable characterisation. It's also an insight into the life of two men who are still trying out a fairly new relationship. Everything isn't easy and they're bound to hurt each other along the way, but as long as they don't lose sight of the really important things you know it's going to work out all right in the end.

In this snippet 6beforelunch gives us Daniel on Abydos right after Sha're's funeral, observing the proper Abydonian mourning period. She creates a wonderful glimpse into Daniel's relationship with Kasuf - in a way Kasuf is the only father Daniel has and right now Daniel is the only child Kasuf has left. We also have a beautiful exploration of life and traditions in Abydos and a glimpse into what life was like for Daniel with Sha're for the year they had. Overall this fic gives a palpable feeling to Daniel's grief and a beautiful expansion on the Abydonian culture. Well worth the read.

Where Jack and Teal'c are awaiting a return that becomes more and more unlikely every minute. I, personally, absolutely adore this fic. In not even 1000 words, splash_the_cat sums up Jack and Teal'c's relationship, with perfect Jack and Teal'c voice on top.

Why This Must Be Read: This a depiction of the conversation in Unending but not. It shows a beautiful way the same conversation could have gone, in different circumstances, with different reasons motivating it. As always Kales is able to bring such amazing depth and introspection into such a small moment. It shows the sides of Daniel and Vala that are sometimes looked over in the hurry to ship them. The serious, slightly broken sides that binds them together whether in friendship or a relationship.

Snippet: They all refer to Earth as the point of reference, the present tense, and they all talk in circles that orbit it but never break atmosphere nor land. Daniel tries not to and is always surprised that Vala does. He likes to think that it means she's here to stay, and they're not her last resort.
