Five Cultural Misunderstandings Daniel Jackson Had to Explain to Teal'c

Why This Must Be Read: Part of the wonderful Five Things series that's still going strong, Minnow actually wrote this one at my request, so I'd probably be partial to it even if it wasn't so good.

While many of us are convinced that Teal'c often only pretends to misunderstand Tau'ri culture, there have surely been many, many times when he was truly at a loss to comprehend those wacky Earth people and their customs. Minnow's choices run from funny to poignant to moving, and every single one of them rings true.

While you're at it, check out the other "Five Things" snippets included in the same post, both above and below this one. They share the same range of emotions and are equally well worth reading!

Proportional Hazards

Why This Must Be Read: This little fic snippet is hot off the presses and too funny to miss!

Some time ago, I recced Folsom Prison Blues, a hilarious teamy goodness piece that included the team resignedly ranking their current prison on their usual scale of one to ten. Now, in response to the "timestamp" meme currently making the rounds, Eve has offered this little gem: yet another prison, yet another break-out. Sam is in her element as she efficiently and smoothly engineers their escape. Except that Sam has a… vested interest, this time. And lets that tidbit of information slip. Oops.

Cheerful disclaimer: Eve wrote this at my request. Doesn't make it any less funny, though. It'll take you two minutes to read, and it's guaranteed to make you smile!

Why This Must Be Read: All of Destina's SG-1 fics are well worth reading, but this one, indeed, is amongst my favorites. A shade too late on their reaction time leaves Jack and Daniel stranded at the Heliopolis after The Torment of Tantalus, with no hope of rescue when the Stargate is lost. Destina expertly characterizes Jack and Daniel here, both as their Season 1 incarnations as well as in their struggles to accept and adapt and, maybe, even grow with their survival and with each other. Her elegantly understated language is particularly effective in conveying the gravity and emotions of the situation, as is her choice to tell the story from Daniel's POV. And the imagery of the 'gate in the water is both striking and meaningful.

Author's Summary: "Jack and Daniel can't go home; now they have to adapt."
