Summary: The discovery of a hidden civilization proves deadly for John Sheppard and Atlantis.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a story that captures perfectly the dynamics and feeling between John and Teyla. It’s deep; it’s plausible, and excellently characterized. This is a perfect example of how you do a ship on a series without losing the focus of the story, the genre you are telling the story in, or without compromising the characters involved.

 

This fic is full of great dialogue, but if I was asked to pick just one instance that captures the mood of this fic it would this one:

 

"We make all these promises, you and I, and then we break them." He stopped, checked to see if they were alone, and grazed the fine line of her jaw with his fingertips. "We trusted each other before to make mission decisions for mission reasons. We can't stop doing that now. We said we would honor the work we did and not get stupid. You know I'm better when you're with me but this time everything in me is sayin' it's a bad idea. If I'm right and something happens, they might as well dig me a hole right there and then. I'd never leave that planet without you. Tell me how you staying in Atlantis is the wrong thing to do."

Why This Must Be Read: I'm not a particular fan of John/Rodney slash, but there are a few stories out there with it as part of a threesome that I enjoy. This one is one of them. Told from Sam's point of view, the story is hot, sexy, and yet the deeper elements, the bonds between the characters, are very telling. Rodney is still prone to his moments of babbling, John has his moments of vulnerability, and Sam is equal parts amusing and serious.

A really amazing fic from two amazing authors.

Why This Must Be Read: The author examines the Jack interacts with different members of his team in a wonderful manor. She also relates Jack's past experiences to the way he behaves now, and it really works. There are some wonderful Sam/Jack moments. The author makes their feelings they have for each other clear, and also resolves why they really can't be together in the current situation.

Why This Must Be Read: This light-hearted little story shows us Sam and Daniel at the end of a long day, going home from the SGC. That's all… Or is it? At the same time, it shows us two people who are fond of each other, perfectly human, and with undeniable mischevious streaks beneath their official status as members of SG-1.

Knowing Sam's canon love of speed, her actions here are no surprise. As for Daniel joining in, much less instigating it…? Well, why not? That's what the fic is about, after all: two good friends going home, and having a bit of fun along the way.
