*waves* I'm Speedy, the crossover reccer for November. I'm kinda new around here, this is my first time reccing. :)

Rec Category: Crossovers
Pairing: none
Category: Crossover SG1/SGA, AU, Drama
Warning: character deaths, violence
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ltlj
Author's Website: Watergate
Link: Retrograde

Why This Must Be Read: The Atlantis expedition has been lost for three years; SG-1 (including General O'Neill) and the Daedalus finally arrive wih reinforcements, the mainland settlement is abandoned and the expedition team is missing. SG-1 must overcome the damage done and uncover a traitor.

This is a very intense and dramatic story of betrayal. The author does a very good job of portraying the expedition's fear and mistrust of the SGC and the fine line SG-1 must walk to help them.

Why This Must Be Read: The hardest part of a crossover is making sure the reader understands both fandoms. I've seen all of about 10 minutes total (most of which I was uninterested) of Grey's Anatomy, so I know little about the show but I still enjoyed this fic. It's very much a character piece, particularly the main character's (Addison) bitterness over her divorce. The author gives those that don't watch both shows the necessary details without sounding like a rehash of old information and even an interesting little twist at the end.

Why This Must Be Read:

I stumbled across a series of twenty-four holiday fics last year and once I started reading them I couldn’t stop. These are brilliantly funny, short and perfectly delightfully. Christmas might be 49 days away but laughing over the foibles that the characters we know and love in Atlantis experience can be appreciated anytime of the year.

Why This Must Be Read: In this intense story, Sam and Daniel are the victims of an alien scientist's experiments, causing their friendship to become unexpectedly a lot closer than either of them realize - even as it helps them alleviate the situation.

The story is set sometime in S4, when the team dynamic has begun to falter and the characters are no longer quite as close as they used to be. Sam, all too aware of this, tries her best to get her relationship with Daniel back on track. But when Sam volunteers to return with Daniel to a friendly planet to give him the opportunity to get back to his archeological and linguistic roots, a rogue scientist seizes the opportunity to snatch them both and hold them for ransom. Sam gets sent back to the SGC to procure the naquada, with Daniel held hostage to her prompt return; but the scientist's method of ensuring her cooperation leaves her and Daniel inextricably linked, both emotionally, psychosomatically, and, over time, physically. With phantom sensations and awareness of each others' emotional states, it's their close friendship that gets them through the harrowing experience and leaves them even closer than ever.

While the fic is unquestionably Sam's and Daniel's, there's solid team support from both from Jack and Teal'c, and some lovely scenes with Janet as well. Add a nice cameo or two from Hammond and some other SGC teams, and you've got an exciting, enjoyable story!
