Why This Must Be Read: Minervacat describes this as "Five places Cameron Mitchell has been strongly encouraged not to return to", and it's just a lovely character portrait. But not only is her Cam spot-on, she really manages to nail the team interaction, too, all the little subtle sharp places where Cam doesn't quite fit in yet, where the edges haven't been filed down, while at the same time makes it really clear that they're all trying and they'll get there soon enough.

The narrative voice is perfect, you can practically hear the dialog, and it's funny as hell. And it has Waffle House. Which makes it even better.

(I had so intended to keep up on recs this month, especially since I knew I'd be on vacation for nine days of it, but I'm so damn sorry I'm late.)

Why This Must Be Read:
This story is an enjoyable and gentle tale. It starts off amusing with the scientists enjoying a drunken baccanalia, Zelenka outside taking a breather and flirting a bit with Parrish. There's a bit of wistful angst as he thinks about someone he'd like to be with but can't be (not Elizabeth), which is sad and touching but makes sense. Then it takes a botanical turn, along the lines of Audrey (*G*), and there's some very nice hurt/comfort that wraps the whole story up in a nice way, a realizing of the adage "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with".

Why This Must Be Read:

You can tell otter loves the brainy love between Rodney and Sam. It just leaps out from her writing. De Profundis is a rather wonderful narrative of a day in the life of Rodney. He's the last one to see Colonel Carter, fresh off the Daedalus and you get to read why. It's cute, it's poignant and oh, it will make you smile because there's the classic John/Rodney interaction we see in the show while also being just enough Sam/Rodney to make this a must-read for anyone seeking a brainyOTP fic.

When you get to the end of the fic, it's a heartwarming scene that gives us a little bit more to go on regarding Rodney's expereience in "Grace Under Pressure". It's wooonnderfulllll.

"I almost died," he says. "I almost died and I was at the bottom of the ocean and the person I wanted there with me the most was you."

Sam frowns at him, but she doesn't turn away; she edges closer, puts her hand flat on his bowed back, between the shoulder blades, and says, "You wanted me to share your certain doom? That's sweet, McKay."
