Okay, here's the list for September. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] will grant posting access from this entry. If your name is on it, make sure that you are listed as a member or she won't be able to give you access. Also, it doesn't officially switch until she puts up the post stating she's done it. In other words, if you are currently rec'cing, say Jack O'Neill, and signed up to rec Gen in September, you cannot start making Gen recs until she puts up the post. That's the only fair way to go about it.

Just a quick bit of info to share. Everyone can do the math.

For Character, we have 15 possible categories.
For Friendship, we have 2 possible categories.
For Genre, we have 13 possible categories.
For Pairing, we have 23 possible categories.

So here's the post. Have fun this month!

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] katie_m
Author's Website: Katie's Stargate SG-1 Fanfic

Why This Must Be Read: Teal'c and Ishta ride to the rescue, seeking answers when Rya'c and Kar'yn are overdue while on a covert mission. While the action sets the stage for the story, this is very much a character study. Unsurprisingly, the two alphas spark off of each other; their discussions reveal who Teal'c is through his interaction with those he loves.

Teal'c has many fine traits that make him a hero: his single-mindedness, his conviction, and his drive, his certainty of what is "right." Unfortunately, these very traits are his Achilles heel in interpersonal matters. You get the sense that Teal'c makes his own bed that much lonelier by the very essence of who he is. And yet, it's those very traits that drove him to defy the gods and spark a galaxy-wide revolution for freedom.

Also? Perfect Ishta and Teal'c voices make this a pleasure to read.

Rec Category: Jack O'Neill
Pairing: no pairing
Characters: Jack, Daniel, Sam, Teal'c
Category: Jack O'Neill, team, suggestions of Jack/Daniel, humor
Warnings: slashy undertones, implied m/m sexual acts among the natives on an alien planet

Author's Website: Jane's Stories
Link: Carousel

Why This Must Be Read:

Round and round it goes. Teal'c and Sam are watching Jack. Jack is watching Daniel. And Daniel is oblivious to them all. No one really understands what the other is thinking, but the presumptions are hilarious and reveal as much about the character doing the observing as they do about the one being observed.

Form follows function here as the author plays with omniscient voice in clever and amusing ways. She gives us a delicious, hard-edged Jack, and excellent voices, including an especially well-tuned Teal'c one. Jane's marvelous ability to suggest action without spelling it out - carefully positioning the dots, then stepping back and letting the reader connect them - is on full display, and it lends a sly, adult feel to the story. The fic has widespread slashy undertones, though it makes nothing explicit, and the suggestiveness of the piece somehow gives it a naughtier edge than many graphic fics. Go read and have an earthy, knowing chuckle.

Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Category: Drama, Slash, Episode Related (Evolution)
Warning: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] alyburns
Author's Website: At Area 52.
Link: Revolution

Why This Must Be Read: Not just a story that attempts to add context to the plot holes in the Daniel side of the ep Evolution, Revolution reaches as far back as Divide and Conquer and Meridian to apply understanding, resolution and change to the actions, feelings and relationships of our SG-1. Layered in and around it all is Daniel - his presence, his absence - and what that means to all. Revolution works to ground Daniel in his oftentimes uneasy renewed presence at the SGC, something the series failed to show us, and does so believably and poignantly. As always in a Sideburns story, the Daniel and Jack banter is lively and in character, and Revolution also provides intriguing depths to Janet's not-so-still waters and tantalizing hints to future stories.

Author's Summary: "Following his return from Honduras, Daniel has a few things to get off his chest."

Why This Must Be Read: One - Daniel introduces Vala to the fine art of eating Oreos, and readers get to see his playful side in the process. Two - very amusing. Three - very hot. All in all, a fun humorous story that’ll put a smile on your face.

Excerpt:
"Hi!" Vala sprang up next to Daniel as he reached the front of the commissary line.

He ducked his head, sighing quietly as her arm slid through his. "Y'know, you just cut in front of like six people."

"Oh…well," Vala glanced over her shoulder, then looked back at him with a grin, "no one seems to mind."

Author's Website: Bunnyfic

Why This Must Be Read: Part of Scribe's Shower Scene Series, the author uses the loss of the robot team from the ep Double Jeopardy here as an effective catalyst to get Jack thinking - about the differences between machine and human, between their team and his, and how one disaffected member, Daniel, can be brought back into the fold. A smooth read that flows as easily for the reader as does Jack's reconnection with Daniel, and being part of Scribe's Shower Scene Series, the imagery is delectable.

Author's Summary: "Jack and Daniel bond after the events of Double Jeopardy."

Why This Must Be Read: All the elements of my favorite kind of story: well-developed, cohesive plot; insightful, layered characterizations; and a weaving of the two into one tightly bound tapestry. All of the characters here are instantly recognizable and multi-dimensional, and Daniel, the one connecting thread, is as true to himself as the author is to his characterization.

Author's Summary: "Can two wrongs really make a right? When Sam pushes Jack to the edge of his control, an unsuspecting Daniel takes the consequences."

Why This Must Be Read: The old "captured by slavers" chestnut turned into a neat little character vignette that subtly shows Daniel's worth, in his every action and word, to both Jack and readers alike.

Why This Must Be Read: Because it's hot and sexy and holy cow, did I mention hot? It's also a great look at the dynamics between all of them.
