Why This Must Be Read: Teal'c and Ishta ride to the rescue, seeking answers when Rya'c and Kar'yn are overdue while on a covert mission. While the action sets the stage for the story, this is very much a character study. Unsurprisingly, the two alphas spark off of each other; their discussions reveal who Teal'c is through his interaction with those he loves.

Teal'c has many fine traits that make him a hero: his single-mindedness, his conviction, and his drive, his certainty of what is "right." Unfortunately, these very traits are his Achilles heel in interpersonal matters. You get the sense that Teal'c makes his own bed that much lonelier by the very essence of who he is. And yet, it's those very traits that drove him to defy the gods and spark a galaxy-wide revolution for freedom.

Also? Perfect Ishta and Teal'c voices make this a pleasure to read.

About that "Pairing" Designation Above-- I didn't list all of the pairings because although this story is all about interpersonal connections a romantic pairing is not the subject of the story. To label it with the relationships presented, "Teal'c/Drey'auc, Teal'c/Shau'nac, Rya'c/Kar'yn" is misleading as to story content. While relationships are discussed, the focus is not the relationships themselves but what they say about Teal'c. I didn't want to place any pairing at all in the designation but since it's het and it would be weird to have it pair-less, I chose the only relationship that is current and acknowledged tacitly in the text.
