Just an FYI for everyone. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] has accepted an offer from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and myself to take up a full maintainer position starting in early June. My recent hiatus has led me to come to the conclusion that having a third wouldn't be such a bad idea.

She's going to be making sure that all entries are tagged and put into memories. In other words, she's going to be the one to make the posts to the rec'cers so they can check and make sure that everything is categorized. She'll also be the one who switches over posting access every month. Given my work schedule, I just thought it would be better for everyone around if I could get someone else to do that.

As far as issues, I still want everyone to bring them to me. I'm still the one who has to make all the hard decisions and if you have issues, I'd prefer that they're brought to me or [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] is as readily available. She and I talk constantly anyway. As time goes on and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] gets more settled, we will probably add her to the email, but I don't want to scare her off. She's taken on a great deal here, along with continuing to do her other volunteer work with the comm.

So I'd like to pass on my thanks and congratulations to her for her willingness to help. This comm is growing by leaps and bounds. It's great!

Also, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I are going through the volunteers to rec tomorrow night. So sign up!!!!! I'd like a really big list of volunteers right off the starting block! Oh yeah, and you don't have to wait for us to ask for rec'cers to sign up!!! You REALLY don't!

Rec Category: Teyla Emmagan

Category: Crossover SG-1/SGA, gen,
Pairing: none
Warning: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] serabut
Author's Website: Unknown
Summary: Teyla in the SGC. In the lull of post-season 2 SGA and season 9 SG-1.
Link: Debriefing.
Why This Must Be Read: Because Teyla's voice and thoughts ring a hundred percent true, and the language and flow of her narration fits wonderfully. It's a great piece about her view of Earth civilization and the SGC. You also get wonderful interaction between her and all the other "aliens" (relative to Earth). Teal'c, Vala, and Ronon play significant roles, but this is very much center-stage to Teyla.

Excerpt: People of many nationalities and allegiances – this galaxy is teeming with life, bursting at the seams, inhabitants of a single planet having the luxury to divide themselves along arbitrary lines of color and ideology. The petty squabbles she has witnessed among the Atlanteans has context now. Those patches on their sleeves are more than fabric to them – they have meaning.

Why This Must Be Read: Short, sweet and cute. Where the idea came from, not even the author seems to know, but it does work!

"You're lucky.. Most penguins never remember who they're reincarnated from.. All I know is something about special forces training and pressing a big red button that was labelled 'Do not touch' in Arabic."

Summary: In the Pegasus Galaxy they've found a puzzle that only one man can solve. The Eppes brothers go traveling.

Why This Must Be Read: I should admit that I’ve never watched Numb3rs, so I can’t say how good the characterisation was from that angle, but from an SGA point of view this fic is great. Rodney actually happy and non-snarky when bouncing ideas off others is almost sweet.

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] skoosiepants
Author's Website: animagi do it naked

Summary: After the first day, McKay had sniffed imperiously, chin tipped up, and told him that he wasn't a complete idiot, and his shame would only be marginal if they were seen together outside of class. Instead of telling him to fuck off, John had grinned sardonically and drawled a mocking, "Thanks," and McKay took that as the olive branch it wasn't and bullied his way into John's daily life.

Why This Must Be Read: Utterly brilliant snarking, enough Atlantis to keep this from being HP with a new selection of Marauders, and Slytherin Rodney somehow managing to get everyone (except John) to do his bidding.

Why this must be read: There are few things better than the well-executed cliche fic and this one is just...perfect. Hot and funny and superb characterization! And, err, did I mention the blow-job? *bg* So fun!

Why This Must Be Read: It's short and simple; a wonderful glance at two men at the beginning of something. I love the little glimpse into Parrish -- sort of nerdy, but in a wonderfully endearing sort of way. *g*

Why This Must Be Read:

This is my first rec here so I hope I do it right. *fingers crossed*

As many of you may know, there was a challenge on the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic regarding "virgin" stories and Lacey, well, she decided instead of writing crack!fic, she'd try something along the lines of what could have really happened to someone to have them arrive at almost forty and still be a virgin. Meaning, she wrote this amazing story of a guy that just had issues and can't quite get over them until he finds the right someone (or the right someone finds *him*) and she made me believe every word of it.

I loved this story because it felt real, like what happened to John could be the real story, could be (dare I say it) canon and the back story that she creates really hit home in a way that many writers can't quite pull off. This worked for me because I felt for John- his predicament wasn't funny, it was heartbreaking- and I believed that Rodney felt that way, too. It was heartfelt without being disgustingly fluffy.

Basic premise: Rodney and John are sitting in a jail cell, waiting for Elizabeth to negotiate their way out. While they pass the time, certain truths are revealed.

Why This Must Be Read:

A beatiful, stark look at John before Atlantis. It centers on his time in Afghanistan and the writing is quite franking astounding. The author does a wonderful job of painting a picture of how John is both incredibly different from his military counterparts and yet how he is the same. I can see the John portrayed here as the John that first stepped through that wormhole to Atlantis. Amazing work.

Why This Must Be Read:

Wow. This is a great piece of writing. It is more about what happens after someone is raped than the rape itself. The rape occurs outside of the story and is referred to but not "shown". What we see is John Sheppard trying to deal with the fact that something happened to him that he can't let go of and that is extremely difficult to process, let alone start to work through.

Through back story of John's previous sexual experiences/relationships and his current interactions with those on Atlantis, Pru paints a picture of what happens to someone who was never, ever expecting to have to deal with something like this but suddenly does. The imagery is wonderful, the writing is beautiful, enough to make you cry, and the story itself just works. Her John is fantastic, as is her Rodney and this is one of the few stories where I can actually see Kate Heightmeyer as a real character, not just a shell that is convenient to use for storytelling purposes.

The relationship (or lack thereof) between John and Rodney just about breaks my heart and is written so well. It is, in my mind, one of the more interesting aspects of this story and it leaves me wanting to know more about what this John and this Rodney are going to do and who they are going to be after the story is finished.

No matter what you feel about non-con/rape stories, this is more about people and less about the physical act itself and I highly, *highly* recommend it. Plus, Pru wrote it.
