Why This Must Be Read: In this is a missing scene from There But for the Grace of God, Daniel thinks about everything that's going on around him and where he fits in. I loved following Daniel's train of thought in the story--the way he focuses on certain details, the reactions of others, and the harsh reality around him.

This is a stunning, mercilessly brilliant fic, the sort that makes you say no and of course at the same time. Afghanistan and pilots and missions gone bad, one case of walking insubordination and one golden boy breaking on the inside, and of course, of course it could have happened like this.

Why This Must Be Read: God, where to start. It's absolutely beautiful. The characterization is wonderful the language gorgeous and it is, in a way, more about Drey'auc than Teal'c. It shows in excruciating and heartbreaking detail what her life might have been after Teal'c's abandonment and mixes it in with glimpses of what Teal'c left behind when he chose to follow O'Neill and a wonderful sense of the regrets he must have and how he fits into the team at the time of the story.

Why This Must Be Read: I read this a while ago and recced it for the Gen category but I didn't see it recc'ed here. This is one of those fics with many layers. It can be seen as a team fic, a Jack/Daniel friendship fic. But it also is a great Jack fic. Lots of Jack whumping and Jack angst and an engrossing read.

Why This Must Be Read: Roxie is almost always a sure thing. Most of her stories have a team flare, are in character, and are well-written while being Daniel-centric. This story has moments of humor but they don't overwhelm the actual dram and story. One of my favorite fics. There is a sequel to this as well.
