WHY READ?: I came across this author back when I was reading through X-Files fanfic and was utterly overjoyed when she turned in Stargate SG-1 fandom. Her work in X-Files was psychological thriller-type stuff with a focus on not only the surface relationships, but also the deeper, underlying psychoses inherent in the military and paramilitary.
Her work in Stargate SG-1 fanfic is mind-blowing. In this story, she angles the bond and relationship of SG-1 through a lens that the show writers would never do and could never pull off if they did. Starting some months after the events of the Season Seven episode 'Fragile Balance', we discover the fate of miniJack - the Jack O'Neill clone and how he's losing it. The story of what's happened and is happening to him make for incredibly powerful reading - as does the proposed and enacted solution in the story.
While all of SG-1 is involved and crucial to the final solution, the writer focuses on Jack and Sam as the similarly-trained military two of the team. It is Jack who muses and mourns over the circumstances of his clone's situation, and Sam who provides the ultimate solution, with a little conniving from Teal'c and Daniel. And her re-take on 'Broca Divide' will delight non-shippers.
The story is 10,000 words and solid. A lot of telling, a lot of showing, brilliant dialogue, interaction, and yet with a lovely tenderness between all SG-1 regarding the fate of their mini-team-mate.
Read it and weep. (And then check out the sequels!)
