WHY READ?: I came across this author back when I was reading through X-Files fanfic and was utterly overjoyed when she turned in Stargate SG-1 fandom. Her work in X-Files was psychological thriller-type stuff with a focus on not only the surface relationships, but also the deeper, underlying psychoses inherent in the military and paramilitary.

Her work in Stargate SG-1 fanfic is mind-blowing. In this story, she angles the bond and relationship of SG-1 through a lens that the show writers would never do and could never pull off if they did. Starting some months after the events of the Season Seven episode 'Fragile Balance', we discover the fate of miniJack - the Jack O'Neill clone and how he's losing it. The story of what's happened and is happening to him make for incredibly powerful reading - as does the proposed and enacted solution in the story.

While all of SG-1 is involved and crucial to the final solution, the writer focuses on Jack and Sam as the similarly-trained military two of the team. It is Jack who muses and mourns over the circumstances of his clone's situation, and Sam who provides the ultimate solution, with a little conniving from Teal'c and Daniel. And her re-take on 'Broca Divide' will delight non-shippers.

The story is 10,000 words and solid. A lot of telling, a lot of showing, brilliant dialogue, interaction, and yet with a lovely tenderness between all SG-1 regarding the fate of their mini-team-mate.

Read it and weep. (And then check out the sequels!)

WHY READ?: This is the sequel to my previous rec, "Monkey Screaming".

If you liked the last story, you're probably going to love this one as well. It picks up the narrative of the previous story and shows that if Jon (the name by which Mini!Jack is going) is now coping with his team around him, others around him aren't managing so well. They've lost more than can be replaced and things are going from completely shitty to totally fucked-up.

The drama of the situation is what initially propels it forward - that and the impending knowledge that a crash-and-burn is imminent - but when the story turns on it's hingepoint, the rest is all adventure-motion-determination-event. The story keeps moving, from conflict to conflict, from pain to agony, from viewpoint to viewpoint, and it never lets up until the denouement.

Once again, brilliant writing, brilliant portrayal, exceptional characterisation, and the psychology of the situation is unspeakably powerful - although I have no idea of its accuracy. The fight scene between Jon and Alex is brutal - as is the depiction of Alex's self-destructive instincts which the reader can see spiralling down to a terrifying rock-bottom.

The story is seriously longer than 'Monkey Screaming' at 23,000 words. Be sure you have time to read it through from go to whoa, because this is not a story you want to lack the time to finish.

WHY READ?: Because John and Teyla are marvellously in character (so rare in John/Teyla stories) and the snapshot is brief and sweet. A lovely little piece.

Why This Must Be Read: This was the first Jack/Daniel fic I ever read. I love it, It has been around forever so I really don’t think it will be new to anyone, I just couldn’t not rec it though. It has a wonderful slow build and twelve parts. The link takes you to the first part. It is a completed story. I honestly suck at this part, explaining why. All I can say is this story is what made me love this fandom. I rec it over and over.

Pairing: Sam/Janet

Warning: Femslash, Violence
Author on LJ: not aware of one

Why This Must Be Read: Sam and Janet trapped off world? Not just trapped, but trapped where they might get killed? Definitely worth a read if the “usual” Sam/Janet fic’s where everything’s fluffy and happy isn’t your cup of tea! I love this because it’s an off world fic, quite simply. There are few good Sam and Janet go offworld fic’s. This is one of my old favourites however. Wonderfully written fic, the emotions of both women working extremely well in a well crafted fic.
