Why? Firstly – it has plot. Too many fic’s are sex for the sake of sex. This wasn’t, although there are “adult” scenes. There’s actually a plot throughout the series. There’s nobody jumping into bed with anyone else just for the sake of it.
There are some great original characters all of them are interesting and have nicely woven character arcs. Deshret as one example grows as a character throughout the series.
Part one: I love this part because of Sam’s frustration midway through- you can almost *hear* her screaming the words on the page, and later on in the fic the way she deals mentally with Janet being missing.
Part Two: sees Sam still coming to terms with the loss of Janet, the events in the fic are based around episodes such as Legacy, and the character of Kiera Morgan (new CMO) is so well written into the fic she’s a seamless part of the SGC…. There are also some great moments between Cassandra and Sam, as they grow to accept that Janet is gone…
Part Three: In this part Geonn jumps back to Janet moments before she was stranded on Sekhet-Aanru. The chapter follows Janet as she struggles to come to terms with her own fate, just as the previous parts dealt with her friends and loved ones’ reactions. There are some great scenes where Janet has to deal with the natives reaction to her presence, and the attempts to send her home.
Part Four: This is possibly my favourite part, because it’s not your classic happy-ever-after-ending… I remember reading it the first time and being shocked by the ending… If you are a die hard Sam/Janet fan, this probably isn’t for you. But if you are open to the idea that things don’t always turn out the way we expect. I highly recommend you read this.
