Why This Must Be Read:
In my previous rec for this month, I recommended a coda for one of my favorite SGU episodes, "Twin Destinies" from Season Two. Here is a short, beautiful bit of writing that explores a key scene from another favorite, "Darkness", from Season One.
In "Canary", the author gives us a peek into Young's mind as Rush falls apart (falls down, falls silent). Short, insightful, well-written - the story shows us both Young's sense of responsibility, and a view of Rush seen through Young's eyes.

Young crouches on his haunches at Rush's side. The scientist looks terribly drawn, and smaller than ever, as if his lack of consciousness has reduced his physical presence a thousand fold.
Big personality, indeed. A large version of something smaller.
Microcosm.
