Why This Must Be Read: This was written for the sg_rarepairings ficathon, and I absolutely adored it for its simplicity and pitch-perfect characterization. We don't see a lot of interaction between Jack and Elizabeth onscreen, but what we have seen is quite interesting. There's almost a level of intimacy (and certainly respect) between them, and I get a kick out of seeing that explored.

It's set after Return Part II, and it perfectly showcases the little things about Elizabeth that I love. She's usually observant and friendly with people, but can still be rather quiet when it comes to opening up herself. Obviously, she had trouble moving on from Atlantis - in fact, she never let go - but it draws in The Real World and all the implications of how that effected her to show a little more as to why she had such difficulty letting go.

Jack's interaction with her is a nice glimpse into what she was thinking and how she was cooping with leaving Atlantis behind. And then, of course, he comforts her... with sex. (okay, it's not that crude, but you know, lucky girl). I've always had a secret love for this pairing, and this fic is the perfect demonstration why.

Why This Must Be Read: Melyanna has a gift for Alternate Universes that I personally think is unparalleled. She is, as far as I know, the mastermind behind several different AU communities - and, obviously, spygate is one of them. This story takes place in this universe, where all the characters (from both SGA and SG-1) have been recast into the espionage business, with Elizabeth Weir and John Sheppard leading the chaos. It's fun. It's cool. It's perfectly in character in some ways, yet fantastically out of character in others (Elizabeth with a gun!). Elizabeth is perhaps written as the coolest character alive here, but Melyanna has in no way made her into a Mary Sue. John is equally as impressive and fleshed out, and have I praised her spygate universe enough yet? 'Cause I could go on, and on. And on. I kid you not.

Just read it, and all the other spygate fics out there. You won't be disappointed at all.
